Microcharts Dialog Box: Bullet Tab

A Microcharts widget is made up of several small types of graphs or charts: bar, sparkline, and bullet microcharts. You can format some aspects of the entire Microcharts widget, and you can also format some aspects of each type of microchart differently.

You can specify display options for the bullet microcharts, such as whether to display the vertical reference line, using the Bullet tab of the Microcharts Dialog Box. . An example of a bullet microchart is shown below:

To access the Microcharts dialog box: Bullet tab

  1. In Presentation Mode, right-click the Microcharts widget and select Properties. The Microcharts dialog box opens.
  2. From the drop-down list, select Bullet. The Bullet tab is displayed.

Options Category

Show bullet graph: Determine whether to show or hide the bullet microcharts in the widget. Selected by default.

Reference line: Determine whether to show or hide the vertical reference line. Selected by default.

Reference bands: Determine whether to show or hide color bands. Selected by default.

Band legend: Determine whether to show or hide a legend for the bullet microcharts. Selected by default.

Associated metric: Determine whether to show or hide the metric column and values associated with the bullet microcharts. Selected by default.

Invert graph axis: Determine whether the bullet microchart is displayed from left to right or right to left (inverted). Cleared by default.

Show Tooltips: Determine whether to show or hide tooltips. Selected by default.

Minimum Value: Type a value to define the minimum scale-setting value. Bullet graphs with performance bars below the minimum value will not be displayed in the widget.

Colors Category

To apply colors to the bullet microcharts, select Custom from the Choose theme drop-down list at the bottom of the interface. The color theme applies to the entire widget, but the properties listed below apply to the bullet microcharts only.

Positive values: Select a color for the positive parts of the performance bar. Default is navy blue.

Negative values: Select a color for the negative parts of the performance bar. Default is red.

Reference line: Select a color for the vertical target line. Default is blue.

From the Band 1, Band 2, and Band 3 palettes, select a color for each reference band, from left to right. The reference bands are listed in order of appearance from left to right. The defaults are dark gray, gray, and light gray, in order.

Labels Category

Header: Type a descriptive column heading name to display above the bullet microcharts.

Associated metric: Type a descriptive heading name for the metric column associated with the bullet microcharts. This heading is displayed when the Associated metric checkbox is selected from the Bullet tab in the Options category.

The reference bands are listed in order of appearance on the legend from left to right.

  • Band 1: Type a descriptive name for the first band in the widget. Default is Low.
  • Band 2: Type a descriptive name for the second band in the widget. Default is Medium.
  • Band 3: Type a descriptive name for the third band in the widget. Default is High.
