Interactive Bubble Graph Dialog Box

You can specify display options for an Interactive Bubble Graph widget, such as whether to use rounded bubbles, how to color bubbles in the graph, and whether to allow time series analysis, using the Interactive Bubble Graph dialog box.

To access the Interactive Bubble Graph dialog box

In Presentation Mode, right-click the Interactive Bubble Graph widget and select Properties.

General Tab Options

  • Inherit graph formatting: Determine whether to apply formatting inherited from the widget's underlying graph report. Cleared by default.

The following formatting options can be inherited from the widget's underlying graph report:

    • Number formatting
    • Font type, size, and color
    • Background and border color of the widget
    • Legend formatting, including position, background, and border color
    • The maximum and minimum values that can be displayed in the graph
    • The interval between tick marks on the graph axes
  • Display legend outside of graph: Select whether to display the graph's legend inside or outside the graph. Cleared by default.
  • Use width (vs. area) to size the bubbles: Determine the size of bubbles in reference to parent bubbles. Cleared by default.
    • To use the sum of the diameters of the drilled-to (child) bubbles as the diameter of the parent bubble, select the checkbox.
    • To use the area of the child bubbles as the area of the parent bubble, clear the checkbox.
  • Apply Rounded Effect to Bubbles: Determine whether to display bubbles with a rounded effect. Selected by default.
  • Maximum bubble radius size: Type the maximum bubble size. Default is 30.
  • Assign colors based on: Select whether to assign colors to the bubbles based on either Series (default) or Category.
    • The category is the data along the X-axis of a graph report, which corresponds to the rows of a grid report. The categories usually represent attributes.
    • The series is the data along the Y-axis of a graph report, which corresponds to the columns of a grid report. The series usually represents metrics.

Time Analysis Tab Options

To view all options, use the scroll bar to scroll down.

Enable time series analysis: Determine whether to enable or disable time series animation. If time series analysis is enabled, the user can control the time series animation. To enable time series animation, make sure there is a third attribute on the rows of the widget's Grid/Graph. Selected by default.

The following options are available if time series analysis has been enabled:

  • Auto-Hide time controls: Determine whether the time series animation control bar is automatically hidden from view unless the cursor hovers over it. Selected by default.
  • Control background color: Select the color for the background of the control. Default is light gray.
  • Control background opacity: Select an opacity percentage, where 100% is a solid color and 0% is transparent. Default is 80%.
  • Button background colors: Select the background colors of the Play button. Defaults are white and light gray.
    • If you specify two different colors, they are blended to create a gradient effect.
    • If you specify the same color, the button background is displayed in a single color.
  • Control highlight color: Select a color for the background of the Play button when the user hovers their cursor over the button. Default is blue.
  • Control size: Specify the size of the time series animation control. Default is Large.
  • Font Family: Select the font for the time series labels (the attribute header). Default is Tahoma.
  • Font Size: Select the font size for the time series labels (the attribute header). Default is 20.
  • Color: Select the font color for the time series labels (the attribute header). Default is gray.
  • Bold: Determine whether to bold the time series labels (the attribute header). Cleared by default.
  • Italic: Determine whether to italicize the time series labels (the attribute header). Cleared by default.

Drilling Tab Options

  • Enable drilling: Select whether to enable or disable drilling. If you are enabling drilling, you must also place a second attribute to the right of the attribute in the rows. Cleared by default.

If drilling is enabled, a user can click on a bubble in the widget to drill down on that bubble's data. This displays a drilled-to (child) bubble with related data.

  • Connect bubbles when drilling: Determine whether a line appears between a drilled bubble and its corresponding drilled-to (child) bubble. The line allows you to better visualize which bubbles contain related information. Cleared by default.

Selectors Tab Options

  • Change selection on mouse over: Determine whether the display in the selectable area is changed when a user hovers the cursor over the area that they want to see. Cleared by default.
  • Trigger selector with lasso automatically: Determine whether to allow the selection box (the lasso) to automatically update the targeted Grid/Graphs and panel stacks, if the widget is used as a selector. The widget must also be enabled to be used as a selector. You must enable attributes or attribute elements in the Grid/Graph that contains the widget. Cleared by default.

For example, when this option is enabled, an analyst can drag a selection box around two brand bubbles in the widget to automatically display those brands in the targeted Grid/Graph.

Scatter Mode Tab Options

  • Scatter Plot Mode Only: Select whether to display the widget in scatter plot mode. Cleared by default, which means that the widget is displayed as a bubble graph.

In scatter plot mode, each bubble in the widget is the same size, and only two metrics are displayed: the X-axis and Y-axis. You can define the radius of the bubbles in the scatter plot, but it cannot be bigger than the maximum radius.

  • Scatter Plot Bubble Radius: Type the size of the scatter plot bubbles. All bubbles in the widget are displayed in this size. Default is 10.
