MicroStrategy ONE

Property List: Document\Layout properties

Appearance

These properties affect either the entire document, or the selected layout of a multi-layout document:

  • Name: Identifies the document or the selected layout.

  • Backcolor: Sets the background color of the document or the selected layout, using the Color dialog box.

  • Border: Specifies the style and color of the borders around the document or the selected layout, using the Border tab of the Format Objects dialog box.

  • Use master page header/footer: (Available only for a multi-layout document) Determines whether the page header and footer sections are shared for all layouts in the document. If this option is not selected, different page sections are used for each layout. For more information on the implications of sharing page headers and footers, see Using separate page headers and footers for layouts.

Export

These properties affect the entire document, including all layouts of a multi-layout document:

  • Default page-by export mode: Specifies whether to export the entire document or only the selected group element. For information on page-by and grouping, see Using page-by on a document and Grouping records in a document.

  • Embed fonts in PDF: Defines whether the original fonts chosen in the Document Editor are used to display and print the PDF, even on machines that do not have those fonts installed. This ensures the portability of the PDF. For more information and instructions, see Embedding fonts in PDFs.

The fonts must be installed on the MicroStrategy Developer or Intelligence Server machine to ensure that the document is rendered correctly when creating and editing the document. The setting above ensures that if the fonts used in the document are available on the machine that generates the PDF, the fonts are embedded in the PDF. When you execute a document in MicroStrategy Developer, the PDF is generated by that client machine. When you execute a document in MicroStrategy Web, the PDF is generated by the Intelligence Server machine.

  • Embed Images in Excel: Means that a user can see the image when he opens the Excel file on another computer that does not have a network connection.

  • Export range: Specifies whether to export All layouts or just the Current layout of a multi-layout document.

  • Graph Format in Excel: Specifies whether to Use live Excel charts or Use embedded bitmaps. Live Excel charts ensure a smaller export size and integrate fully with Excel. However, they support fewer graph properties than MicroStrategy does; for a complete list see Selecting Excel export options for documents.

  • Include bookmarks in PDF: Sets whether bookmarks are generated for each element of each grouping field in the document. Bookmarks create a table of contents for the PDF. If the document is not grouped, no bookmarks are generated. For more information and instructions, see Including bookmarks in PDFs.

  • Prompt user on export: Specifies whether the user is prompted to choose what to export. The prompt allows the user to select whether to export all layouts or only the current layout, and whether to expand page-by.

  • If Prompt user on export is cleared, the Export range and Default page-by export mode properties described above are used.

  • If Prompt user on export is selected, but either of the following is true, the user is not prompted, and the Export range and Default page-by export mode properties described above are used:

    • The document has one layout and no grouping.

    • The document has one layout, is grouped, and the page-by selections are set to All.

  • Show bookmarks in PDF: Determines whether the bookmark panel is displayed when the PDF is viewed. If this property is not selected, the bookmarks can still be generated but they are not displayed automatically when the PDF opens.

  • Use bitmaps for graphs in PDF: By default, graphs are generated using vector graphs, which are much smaller and reduce the size of the PDF. They also improve the quality of printed graphs. Set this property to True to generate graphs using bitmaps instead. For more information and instructions, see Changing the graph resolution in PDFs.

Use bitmaps if you want to use any of the following, which are not supported by vector graphs:

    • Background pattern (only the background color of the pattern is used)

    • Rectangular gradient (linear and circular gradients are supported; rectangular gradients are converted to circular gradients)

    • Texture and picture background (a solid white background is applied)

  • Use draft quality in PDF: Determines whether bitmap graphs are generated using a lower resolution, thus reducing the size of the PDF. The quality of the graph images on screen is generally not affected, but the quality of the printed graphs is impacted.

This option is available only for bitmaps, not for vector graphs.

Other

These properties affect the entire document, including all layouts of a multi-layout document:

  • Auto apply selector changes: Applies to all selectors in the document. By default, it is enabled, so that once a user clicks an object (button, link, and so on) in the selector, the change is automatically applied to the target of the selector. When the property is disabled, the user can choose when to update the target, by clicking Apply. For general information on selectors, see Providing interactivity to users: Selectors.

When this property is enabled and multiple objects can be selected in a selector, the target is automatically updated after each individual selection, which can take some time. If you disable this property, the user can choose when to update the target -- after picking a single object or multiple objects. For more details, see Allowing multiple selections and autosubmission for selectors.

  • Default grid autostyle: A report Autostyle is a pre-defined report style that gives a report its format, color scheme, and font options. A Grid/Graph that is added to the document without formatting is formatted by the default grid autostyle. See Setting the default grid Autostyle for more information.

  • Document width mode: Determines whether the width of the document, as displayed in MicroStrategy Web, is adjusted automatically or based on a specified fixed width. This property does not affect the document width in MicroStrategy Developer. If you select Fixed, enter the size in the Width property below.

  • Embedded fonts: Lists the SWF files that contain font definitions, such as Tahoma and ComicSans. These definitions are used when the document is displayed in Flash Mode in MicroStrategy Web. For example, the files can include the font types that supportvertical textand font anti-aliasing in Flash Mode. For more information on embedding fonts, seeEmbedding fonts for Flash Mode (MicroStrategy Web).Enter the relative path and the name of the SWF file, such as ../

  • Always open this document in Full Screen mode: Determines whether the document initially opens in Full Screen mode in MicroStrategy Web. Full Screen mode, which is available only in MicroStrategy Web, displays the document without any menus, toolbars, or panels except for a core set of toolbar buttons and the Grouping panel. Full Screen mode allows the user to view more of the document at the same time, which is helpful when analyzing data, as in a Report Services (RS) dashboard that contains multiple dataset reports, sections, and images. For more information, see Uncluttering the RS dashboard display: Full Screen mode.

  • Overflow: If the controls on the layout extend beyond the width of a single page, this property determines whether the excess controls (the overflow) are printed on the next sheet of paper or on the same page. In other words, it is the difference between printing the controls left to right on multiple pages (the default) or immediately below each other on the same page. The Overflow setting applies to all sections in the layout. For more information, see Controlling horizontal overflow.

  • Show floating toolbars in Flash: Determines whether a floating toolbar, which allows you to sort or pivot data columns, is displayed when you hover the cursor over the columns of a grid report in Flash Mode.

  • Show single layout tab: Controls whether a layout tab is shown even when the document contains only one layout. If this option is selected, an Add a New Layout icon displays next to the layout tab, allowing you to quickly insert another layout to create a multi-layout document.

Size

This property affects either the entire document, or the selected layout in a multi-layout document:

  • Width: Specifies the width of the document as displayed in MicroStrategy Web, if Document width modeis set toFixed.
