Document Reconciliation Editor

A portable document contains all the design of the document without the data, allowing you to copy documents between projects, even when the projects do not have the same metadata. When you import the document into the replacement project, you map the document to the new project (referred to as reconciling the document).

A Report Services (RS) dashboard can also be made portable; for simplicity, the term document is used throughout this topic to refer to documents and RS dashboards.

The original project is the project that you export the document from; the replacement project is the project that you import the document into.

For background information about reconciling documents, see Portable documents: Reusing documents across projects.

Document Reconciliation Editor layout

The Document Reconciliation Editor has:

  • A menu bar with the following options:

  • File, to save the document and to exit the editor

  • View, to expand or collapse the attribute forms, and to hide or display system attribute forms

  • Help, which opens the MicroStrategy Developer Help

  • A status message indicating how many replacement reports or objects need to be reconciled:

  • If the status message is not displayed when you first open the Document Reconciliation Editor, the document does not need to reconciled. One way that this can happen is if the document does not contain any dataset reports. You can save the document, which closes the editor.

  • After you have reconciled all the reports and objects, the status message disappears. You can now save the document.

  • The Show drop-down list, which allows you to change what is displayed in the mapping table:

  • All objects

  • Attributes only

  • Metrics only

  • The mapping table

The mapping table contains the following columns:

  • Original Report, which lists the dataset reports in the original document.

  • Original Objects, which lists the dataset objects on those reports.

  • Replace With, which is blank when the Document Reconciliation Editor initially opens. You drag and drop replacement objects to this column.

  • Replacement Objects, which is blank when the Document Reconciliation Editor initially opens. After you select a replacement report, that report's objects are displayed here.

You drag and drop replacement objects from this column to the Replace With column. After an object is moved to the Replace With column, its name is grayed out in the Replacement Objects column.

: You can drag an object from theReplace Withcolumn back to theReplacement Objectscolumn, if you incorrectly placed it.

  • Replacement Report, which contains the Select button when the Document Reconciliation Editor initially opens. Click Select to choose a replacement report. The replacement report is then displayed in this column. To change the replacement report, click ...(the browse button) next to the report name. You can use this feature to view a number of different reports and their objects, to help determine which is the best replacement.

Accessing the Document Reconciliation Editor

Prerequisites

  •

  • You have created the document that will be used as the original document, following these requirements:

  • The document must be created in a project that was created with MicroStrategy 8.0.1 or later.

  • The document cannot contain derived metrics or derived elements.

  • You have exported the original document from the original project. For instructions, see Copying documents between projects.

  • To import the document into the replacement project, you must have the Use Document Editor privilege, and browse and use access on all replacement objects.

  1. In MicroStrategy Developer, log into the replacement project (the project that you want to import the document to).

  2. From the Tools menu, select Import Document Template. The Select a Package dialog box opens.

  3. Navigate to and select the portable document to import.

  4. Click Open.

  5. If the replacement dataset report does not match the original dataset report (for example, the original report contains two attributes but the replacement has only one), a message is displayed. Click OK, and select a different dataset report.

  6. The document is automatically reviewed to see if it needs reconciliation.

    • If the document needs reconciliation, the Document Reconciliation Editor opens. A status indicating how many replacement reports or objects need to be reconciled is displayed. For instructions to reconcile the document, see Copying documents between projects.

    • If the document does not need reconciliation, the Document Reconciliation Editor opens with blank fields and no status message. One way that this can happen is if the document does not contain any dataset reports. You can save the document, as described below:

  7. Select Save from the File menu.

  8. Navigate to the folder to save the document in, and then click OK. A message appears indicating the document was saved.

  9. Click OK. The Document Reconciliation Editor closes, and you are returned to MicroStrategy Developer.
