Designing dynamic, interactive documents

An interactive document is a special type of document. It is commonly only one page long, is intended to be viewed online, and usually provides interactive features that let analysts change how they view the document's data. By being only one page long, this type of document makes it easy to view the entire document at the same time and see all the information. It allows interactivity from users, so each user can change how they see the data, within the limits of what the controls allow them.

The designer can create more flexible data presentations, since more users can be served with a single interactive document. Each user can choose to see only the subset of data they are interested in (using panels and selectors) or can choose to see only specific attribute elements or metrics (using a selector). Panels and selectors are described in detail in Layering data in interactive documents: Panels and panel stacks and Providing interactivity to users: Selectors.

This section assumes that you understand the various MicroStrategy controls (such as Grid/Graphs, text fields, and so on) discussed in Designing and creating documents; understanding these controls is important to understanding panels and selectors in interactive documents.
