Format Cells dialog box: Chart tab

The graph (or chart) color is used when the metric is displayed as a series in a graph report. For an in-depth description of how the graph color is used, see Defining a graph color for metrics.

The Chart tab is available only when formatting metric headers.

Chart tab options

  • To display the series with a single, solid color:

  • Set the Series Color to Solid.

  • Select the color from the Fill color drop-down list.

  • To display the series in a gradient color, which blends two colors in a gradual color change in the background:

  • Set the Series Color to Gradient.

  • Select the first color to apply from the Color 1 drop-down list.

  • Select the second color to apply from the Color 2 drop-down list. Color 1 and Color 2 are blended together.

  • Click one of the squares to set the direction of the shading between the two colors. The colors can blend left to right, right to left, top to bottom, bottom to top, horizontally centered, or vertically centered.

  • To display the series using a pattern:

  • Set the Series Color to Patterns.

  • Select the background color of the object from the Fill color drop-down list.

  • Select the color used to draw the pattern from the Pattern color drop-down list.

  • Click one of the squares to select the pattern to apply.

  • If you click the solid-colored square, the fill and pattern that you selected previously are lost and no pattern or fill is applied to the cell background.

  • When formatting a metric at the metric level (that is, from the Metric Editor), to use the graph color defined on the graph report, set the Series Color to <default>.

  • When formatting a metric at the report level (that is, from the Report Editor), to use the graph color defined at the metric level, set the Series Color to <default>.

  • When formatting a metric at the report level (that is, from the Report Editor), to use the graph's color scheme, set the Series Color to From Graph.

  • As you make changes, the Sample area changes to show a preview of your selections.
