Formatting the series in a graph report

The series on a graph report usually can be identified by the following characteristics:

  • Data along the Y-axis of a graph report

  • Correspond to the columns of a grid report

  • Displayed in the legend of graph report

  • Usually represent metrics

You can apply formatting options to an individual series in a graph report.

To format the series in a graph report

  1. Open a report. (How?)

  2. If the report is not already in Graph view, from the View menu, select Graph View to display the report as a graph.

  3. Select a riser (area, bar, line, marker, pie slice, and so on) or a legend marker in the graph.

  4. From the Graph menu, select Series Options. The Preferences dialog box opens.

  5. Select a category from the following and enter values for the options associated with it:

    • Series changes general formatting options for a specific series for each graph type, where Series is the name of the metric associated with the series object. This category is named Bar Riser for Histogram graphs.

    • Font changes the font formatting for the graph object.

    • Border changes the line formatting for the border of the graph object.

    • Fill changes the background effects for the graph object. When defining the Fill options for a series object of a graph, the options described below are ignored if the metric for the series has a metric-specific graph color. To apply the manual Fill options described below for a series object, you can disable the display of metric-specific graph colors by clearing the Apply metric formatting when available check box.

    • Number Formatting changes the format of numerical values displayed on the graph.

    • Trendlines changes the format of the trendlines in the graph.

  6. After you finish with one category, do either one of the following:

    • Click Apply to save the selections without closing the dialog box. Continue with the rest of the categories and then close the Preferences dialog box.

    • Click OK to save the selections and close the dialog box.
