Trendline

Select from the following trendline formatting options for the selected series:

  • Regression Type: Allows you to select a regression type, that is, Linear, Logarithmic, Polynomial, Exponential, or Moving Average, to define the type of trend line you want to draw for the selected series. The moving average line is calculated from the data points for the selected series. This trend line smoothes the fluctuations in the data points and shows a pattern or trend.

  • Order: Allows you to specify the degree of linear regression for a Polynomial trend line. It must be greater than one but no greater than the number of groups in the graph. To determine how this changes the calculation of the trendline, select the Show Equation check box which is described below.

  • Period: Allows you to enter the period over which Moving Average trend line should be drawn. To determine how this changes the calculation of the trendline, select the Show Equation check box which is described below.

  • Show Equation: For all regression types except Moving Average, shows the equation that is used for a Linear, Logarithmic, Polynomial, Power, or Exponential trend line. If you select this option to display the trendline equation, a Curve Text category is made available to define the font formatting for the equation. If you also select to display the coefficient values for the trendline, this font formatting is shared for the equation and the coefficient values.

  • Show Coefficients Values: For all regression types except Moving Average, shows the coefficient values that are used for a Linear, Logarithmic, Polynomial, Power, or Exponential trend line. If you select this option to display the trendline coefficient value, a Curve Text category is made available to define the font formatting for the coefficient value. If you also select to display the equation for the trendline, this font formatting is shared for the equation and the coefficient values.
