MicroStrategy ONE

Series options

Depending on the selected graph style, the different options are displayed to format the selected series. The following series options are available for most graph types:

  • Show Data Labels: Displays or hides data labels in a graph for the selected series.

  • Show Tooltip (Web Only): Tooltips are text that is displayed when a user passes the cursor over a graph's series in MicroStrategy Web. The contents of tooltips can be changed by using macros, dynamic text that is replaced with graph information when the tooltip is shown. To display a tooltip in MicroStrategy Web, select the Show Tooltip (Web Only) check box. This also allows you to modify the tooltip. In the pane below, enter the macro that displays the desired tooltip information or your own static text. A table of tooltip macros is shown below:

    Macro

    Information Displayed

    {&TOOLTIP}

    All relevant labels and values associated with a graph item.

    {&GROUPLABEL}

    Name of the graph item's category. This value is often the graph item's attribute element information, as attributes are commonly used as the categories of graph reports.

    {&SERIESLABEL}

    Name of the graph item's series. This value is often the graph item's metric name information, as metrics are commonly used as the series of graph reports.

    {&VALUE}

    The value of a given data point.

    {&XVALUE}

    The X-value of a data point. Only applicable to Bubble charts and Scatter plots.

    {&YVALUE}

    The Y-value of a data point. Only applicable to Bubble charts and Scatter plots.

    {&ZVALUE}

    The Z-value of a data point. Only applicable to Bubble charts and Scatter plots.

    {&XLABEL}

    The label of the X-axis. Only applicable to Bubble charts and Scatter plots.

    {&YLABEL}

    The label of the Y-axis. Only applicable to Bubble charts and Scatter plots.

    {&ZLABEL}

    The label of the Z-axis. Only applicable to Bubble charts and Scatter plots.

  • Show Trendlines: Displays or hides a trendline for the selected series. Trendlines are lines displayed on a graph to show the average change of data for a series on a graph. For example, if a trendline is shown for a profit series which has steadily increasing values, a line is displayed that shows this average increase. If you select this option to display trendlines, you can format the trendline.

Other formatting options are available for the following graph styles:

Bar, Area, and 3D Surface graphs

  • Show Selected Series As: Allows you to change the format in which risers are drawn. You can select Default for Chart Type, Line, Riser, or Area. For example, you can change an area riser in an area graph to always display as a column or line riser or you could change a column riser in a column graph to always display as an area or line. This option is not available for 3D Scatter, Bubble, Histogram, Pie, Funnel, Pareto, Gauge, Box Plot and Scatter graphs.

Line, Scatter, Pareto Percent, Gauge, and 3D Scatter graphs

  • Show Markers on Line:

  • Marker Size: Allows you to use the slider to change the size of the marker.

  • Marker Shape: Allows you to select a markers shape from the list: Rectangular, X-shape, Plus Symbol Thin, Circle, Diamond, Triangle, Plus Symbol Thick, Square, and Star. The standard configuration draws rectangular markers for all risers.

  • Show Step Line: Links two successive points on a graph by a step-line rather than just joining them by a straight line. Step lines use a horizontal line to display the value for a data point on the series, then a vertical line is used to move the line up to the next data point in a series. A step line can make it easier to discern what the values are for each data point on a series than a straight or curved line can. This option is available only for Line, Pareto Percent, Polar, and Stock graphs.

Bubble charts

  • Marker Shape: Allows you to select an option from the list to change the shape of the markers for the selected series from Rectangular to X-shape, Plus Symbol Thin, Circle, Diamond, Triangle, Plus Symbol Thick, Square, or Star. This selection also changes the shape of the legend marker in the legend area. This option is not available for 3D Scatter, Area, Line, Pie, Funnel, Pareto, Gauge, Box Plot, and Scatter graphs.

  • Connect Bubbles with Lines: Links the bubbles with lines. This option is only available for Bubble charts.

Scatter plots

  • Marker Size: Allows you to use the slider to change the size of the marker.

  • Marker Shape: Allows you to select a markers shape from the list: Rectangular, X-shape, Plus Symbol Thin, Circle, Diamond, Triangle, Plus Symbol Thick, Square, and Star. The standard configuration draws rectangular markers for all risers.

  • Connect Data Points with Lines: Displays or hides the connecting line between the markers in the series. This option is only available for Scatter plots.

Pie charts

  • Show Values: Displays the values from the data sheet at the corresponding location on each slice.

  • Show Data Labels: Displays or hides data labels in a Pie chart for each slice.

  • Show Leader Lines: Displays or hides a line from the slice to the value for the slice.

  • Labels on Sides: Modifies the orientation of the labels.

  • Detach Slice: Allows you to use the slider to detach the slice for the currently selected series away from the pie. Larger values move the slice further away from the pie.

  • Delete Slice: Deletes the slice for the currently selected series. This option is only available for Pie and Funnel graphs.

  • Restore Slice: If a slice has been detached or deleted, restores it in the pie. This option is only available for Pie and Funnel graphs.

Funnel graphs

  • Explode Funnel: Allows you to use the slider to detach the slice for the currently selected series away from the funnel. Larger values move the slice further away from the funnel.

  • Restore: If a slice has been detached or deleted, restores it in the funnel.
