Fill formatting for graph objects

The Fill options allow you to change the formatting of graphic objects' background effects in your graph report. You can modify the background effects of graph objects with the following options:

When defining the Fill options for a series object of a graph, the options described below are ignored if the metric for the series has a metric-specific graph color. To apply the manual Fill options described below for a series object, you can disable the display of metric-specific graph colors by clearing the Apply metric formatting when available check box.

  • Transparency: Sets how visible the background effects of an object are. As you set the transparency of an object's background effects closer to 0 they become less visible. (See Steps to apply a transparency effect to a graph object.)

  • Bevel: Opens the Bevel dialog box, which applies a bevel effect to the background of the selected object. (See Steps to apply a bevel effect to a graph object.)

  • Background type: Determines the type of background effect to use as the fill. You have the following options:

  • Solid: Applies a solid color to the background of the currently selected object. You can select the color with the following option:

  • Color: Applies a color from the color grid to the background effects of the currently selected object.

  • Gradient: Applies a gradient to the background of the selected object. (See Steps to apply a gradient to a graph object.) You can define the gradient with the following options:

  • Colors: Defines the gradient to use different shades of the same color (One color), or use two different colors (Two colors).

  • Shading Styles: Defines the angle and direction of the gradient. With each shading style you can select a specific Variant. Rather than selecting from a list of variants, the Custom shading style lets you define the appearance of the gradient.

  • Texture: Applies a texture (a special type of pattern) to the background of the selected object. (See Steps to apply a texture to a graph object.) You can define the texture with the following options:

  • Texture tabs: Each tab provides a set of textures that can be applied to the background of the selected object. Use the left and right arrow options (image\ebx_1033294360.gif) at the top-right corner of the dialog box to select a texture type (for example, Assorted, Granite, Grey, Marble, Mixed Light, Wood, and so on) from the texture blocks. You can also use the scroll button to review all the types available in each category.

  • Flip: Defines the orientation of the texture.

  • Select Texture: Allows you to select a custom texture file.

  • Picture: Applies a clip art picture to the background of the selected object. (See Steps to apply a picture to a graph object.) You can define the picture with the following options:

  • Picture tabs: Each tab provides a set of pictures that can be applied to the background of the selected object. Use the right/left arrow options (image\ebx_1033294360.gif) at the top-right corner of the dialog box to select a picture type from the picture blocks. You can also use the scroll button to review all the types available in each category.

  • Flip: Defines the orientation of the picture.

  • Select Picture: Allows you to select a custom picture file.

  • Pattern: Applies a pattern to the background of the selected object. (See Steps to apply a pattern to a graph object.) Select a pattern from the patterns that are available, and then define the formatting of the pattern with the following options:

  • Foreground: Defines a color box for the foreground of the pattern.

  • Background: Defines a color box for the background of the pattern.

A preview pane shows a sample of how the object's background effects look with the currently selected formatting options.
