Find and Replace: Metric Formatting

Find and replace allows you to modify the format of metrics and subtotals throughout the project. You can choose to modify the formatting of the metric header, the metric values, or both.

Examples of metric formatting include:

  • Text alignment

  • Whether to wrap text

  • Padding

  • Font style, size, and color

  • Border style and color

  • Background

To find and replace metric formatting

  1. In MicroStrategy Developer, select Find and Replace from the Tools menu. The Find and Replace dialog box opens.

You must be logged in to a project before you access the Find and Replace dialog box.

  2. Select Metrics Formatting in the list box in the Select area.

  3. In the Find area, select how to find the metrics to be updated. For instructions, see Find and Replace: Find.

The find process may return both metrics and subtotals.

  4. In the Replace With area, select the metric formatting to apply to the selected metrics, using one of these methods:

    • To use the formatting of a specific metric, select Set the formatting properties based on the following metric, and then click ... (the browse button). Find the metric to use, and click Open.

    • To specify various metric formatting options, click Set the formatting properties individually. You can choose to modify the formatting of the metric header, the metric values, or both, as described below:

    • To modify the metric header formatting, select theMetric Headercheck box. Click theFormattingbutton next to theMetric Headercheck box. The Format Cells dialog opens. Set the formatting options for the metric header and clickOK. For descriptions of the various formatting options, seeFormat Cells dialog box.

    • To modify the metric values formatting, select theMetric Valuescheck box. Click theFormattingbutton next to theMetric Valuescheck box. The Format Cells dialog opens. Set the formatting options for the metric values and clickOK. For descriptions of the various formatting options, seeFormat Cells dialog box.

    • Review and update the metrics to be changed

  5. Review the list of metrics in the Summary pane, ensuring that you want to replace the formatting on all of them.

    • If you find any that you do not want to change, clear the check box in front of them.

When a metric is no longer selected, it still appears in the list unless the Show only selected metricscheck box is selected.

    • To re-select an unselected metric, select its check box.

    • If more than 300 metrics are found, use the Previous 300 and Next 300 to view them.

    • By default, all metrics selected in the find process are displayed in the Summary pane, even if they are no longer selected.

    • To show only the selected metrics, select the Show only selectedmetricscheck box.

    • To display those unselected metrics again, clear the Show only selectedmetricscheck box.

  6. By default, the Select All, Clear All, and Replace processes apply to all the metrics selected in the find process. To apply the process only to the metrics displayed in the Summary pane, select Apply only to displayed objects.

This setting works only if more than 300 reports and templates are found, because 300 objects is the maximum that can be displayed in the Summary pane at one time.

  7. To clear all metrics, select Clear All. If more than 300 metrics were found and Apply only to displayed objects is selected, only the set of 300 metrics that is currently displayed in the Summary pane is cleared.

The metrics still appear in the list unless the Show only selected metrics check box is selected.

  8. To re-select all unselected metrics, select Select All. If more than 300 metrics were found and Apply only to displayed objects is selected, only the set of 300 metrics currently displayed is selected.

  9. To show the path for each metric in the Summary pane, select the Show folder path for metricscheck box.

  10. Before you replace the metric formatting, you can specify:

  11. You can edit an individual metric by right-clicking the metric in the Summary pane and selecting Edit. The Metric Editor opens. After you make your changes, click Save and Closeto save the metric and return to the Find and Replace dialog box.

  12. After you have reviewed and updated the list of metrics, apply the formatting changes to the selected metrics by clicking Replace.

If the Replace button is grayed out, you delayed running a search in the find step above. Click Update Summary to create the list of metrics to be updated.

If Apply only to displayed objects is selected, the metric formatting is applied only to the objects displayed in the Summary pane, rather than all the objects selected in the find process.

  13. When you are done, click Close to return to MicroStrategy Developer.
