Find and Replace: Graph Preferences

Find and replace graph preferences allows you to define a set of graph preferences to be modified in a set of reports. Some examples of the graph preferences are:

  • Font and line resizing

  • Scrolling behavior

  • Graph labels

  • Available graph styles

  • Graph object colors

To find and replace graph preferences

  1. Select Find and Replace from the Tools menu of MicroStrategy Developer. The Find and Replace dialog box opens.

You must be logged in to a project before you access the Find and Replace dialog box.

  2. Select Graph Preferences in the list box in the Select area.

  3. In the Find area, select how to find the reports to be updated. For instructions, see Find and Replace: Find.

  4. In the Replace With area, select the graph preferences to apply to the selected reports, using one of these methods:

    • To use the graph preferences of a specific report, select Set the graph preferences based on this report, and then click ... (the browse button). Find the report to use, and click Open.

    • To specify the graph preferences, click Set the graph preferences individually, and then clickGraph Preferences. The Preferences dialog box opens. For each graph preference to change, make the change and select the Apply check box to the right of the preference. When you have updated all the graph preferences, click OK. For descriptions of the various graph preferences, see:

  5. Review the list of reports in the Summary pane, ensuring that you want to replace the graph preferences on all of them.

    • If you find any that you do not want to change, clear the check box in front of them.

When a report is no longer selected, it still appears in the list unless the Show only selected reports check box is selected.

    • To re-select an unselected report, select its check box.

    • If more than 300 reports are found, use the Previous 300 and Next 300 to view them.

    • By default, all reports selected in the find process are displayed in the Summary pane, even if they are no longer selected.

    • To show only the selected reports, select the Show only selected reports check box.

    • To display those unselected reports again, clear the Show only selected reportscheck box.

  6. By default, the Select All, Clear All, and Replace processes apply to all the reports selected in the find process. To apply the process only to the reports displayed in the Summary pane, select Apply only to displayed objects.

This setting works only if more than 300 reports and templates are found, because 300 objects is the maximum that can be displayed in the Summary pane at one time.

  7. To clear all reports, select Clear All. If more than 300 reports were found and Apply only to displayed objects is selected, only the set of 300 reports that is currently displayed in the Summary pane is cleared.

The reports still appear in the list unless the Show only selected reports check box is selected.

  8. To re-select all unselected reports, select Select All. If more than 300 reports were found and Apply only to displayed objects is selected, only the set of 300 reports currently displayed is selected.

  9. To show the path for each report in the Summary pane, select the Show folder path for reportscheck box.

  10. Before you replace the graph preferences, you can specify:

  11. You can edit an individual report by right-clicking the report in the Summary pane and selecting Edit. The Report Editor opens. After you make your changes, click Save and Close to save the report and return to the Find and Replace dialog box.

  12. After you have reviewed and updated the list of reports, apply the graph preferences to the selected reports by clicking Replace.

If the Replace button is grayed out, you delayed running a search in the find step above. Click Update Summary to create the list of reports to be updated.

If Apply only to displayed objects is selected, the graph preferences are applied only to the objects displayed in the Summary pane, rather than all the objects selected in the find process.

  13. When you are done, click Close to return to MicroStrategy Developer.
