Using the Developer window

MicroStrategy Developer is the first window displayed when you log on to MicroStrategy in the Developer environment. The main Developer window serves as the primary point of access to the object editors, dialog boxes, and wizards that enable you to create MicroStrategy reports and documents, maintain MicroStrategy projects, and administer MicroStrategy tools and the reporting environment.

Developer window contents

The MicroStrategy Developer window, which serves as the entry window when you log on to MicroStrategy Developer , includes:

  • A Location box across the upper part of the window, showing the project currently selected (as a default, the project you were using when you last logged off is the one selected)

  • A Folder List displayed in the central part of the window, showing all the projects to which you have access

  • A Shortcut Bar located in the left side of the window, showing shortcut icons to various Developer  features and functionality

  • A display of folder contents on the right, showing Name, Type, and either Metadata Version (for projects) or Modification Time (for project components), and History messages

  • A menu bar that, in addition to standard Windows NT menus (File, Edit, View, Go, Window, and Help), includes Tools, Administration, and Schema menus that contain Developer-specific items

  • A toolbar that provides, among other options, the capability to:

  • Create new objects

  • Run reports

  • Search for objects

  • View object properties

  • If your administrator has enabled it, project status information at either the top or bottom of the window

Accessing the Developer window

To access the MicroStrategy Developer window, from your Start menu, select Programs (or All Programs), then MicroStrategy, then Developer, then select Developer again. Log in to MicroStrategy Developer.
