Formatting Metrics

Use the Formatting tab of the Metric Editor to specify metric-level formatting. You can select different formatting options for metric column headers and values. Formatting options include font size and color, alignment, text wrap, and cell background color and borders.

When you use a metric, you can overwrite this metric-level formatting with formatting specific to that report, document, or dashboard.

Format a Metric

  1. Create a new metric.
    • To edit an existing metric instead, find the metric and double-click it.
  2. In the Metric Editor, click Formatting.
  3. In the Number Formatting area, from the Category drop-down list, select how numeric data displays, such as Currency or Percentage.
  4. Format the number as you need. The specific formatting options available depend on the category selected. For example, Date allows you to select MM/DD/YY, M/D/YY, YY/MM/DD, and other formats. Percentage allows you to select the number of decimal places and how to display negative numbers.

Use the Preview area at the bottom of the Number Formatting area to view your changes.

  5. In the Display Formatting area, select the area of the metric to format by clicking one of the following:
    • To format the metric column headers (the titles), select Metric Headers (selected by default).
    • To format the metric values (the numbers calculated by the metric), select Metric Values.
  6. Use the Font settings to select:
    • The font name, size, and color.
    • Whether the font is bold, italicized, underlined, or struck out.
    • The alignment, which is how the data is positioned inside their respective cells. This includes horizontal and vertical alignment and text direction.
    • Whether to wrap the text.
  7. Use the Cells settings to select:
    • The background color.
    • The style and color of the border line. You can select which borders (top, bottom, left, and right) display, or hide all the borders.
    • The padding on all four sides of the cell.
  8. Use the Preview area at the bottom of the Display Formatting area to view your changes.
  9. Click Save to save the metric and its formatting.
