Selector Section of the Properties and Formatting Dialog
Use the Selector section of the Properties and Formatting dialog to modify the basic properties of a selector. There are two types of selectors that you can use in a document:
- Object selectors allow users to flip through the panels in a panel stack, filter a metric, or display different metrics or elements of attributes, custom groups, or consolidations. If the Action Type choices are Select Attribute Element, Select Attribute, Select Metric, Select Panel, and Select Metric Condition, you are working with an object selector.
- Transaction Services selectors allows users to view and edit their business data in a Transaction Services-enabled document. If the Action Type choices are Submit, Recalculate, and Discard Changes, you are working with a Transaction Services selector.
Access
- Open a document in Design or Editable Mode.
- Right-click a control and choose Properties and Formatting.
- In the left pane, click Selector.
Fields
Selector
Action Type Define the type of selector.
- Select Attribute Element The selector displays a list of the elements from the attribute, custom group, or consolidation selected in the Source field (below).
- Select Attribute The selector displays a list of attributes to display in the reports selected as the Target (below). This type of selector allows the user to see the data at the level that they want.
- Select Metric The selector displays a list of the metrics available in the reports selected as the Target (below).
- Metrics in text fields within the target are not listed. For example, a panel stack is selected as a Target and contains a metric in a text field. That metric is not displayed in the Select Metric list.
-
Select PanelThe selector displays a list of the panels available in the panel stack selected as the target.
- Select Metric Condition Users can create a metric qualification or select metric values on a slider to qualify data based on the value of a metric. For metric qualification and metric slider selectors, the Action Type is set to Select Metric Condition by default, and cannot be changed.
Source Lists all of the attributes in all of the datasets in the document. The selector displays the attribute, custom group, or consolidation elements of the attribute selected as the Source. This field is available if Action Type is set to Select Attribute Element.
Displayed Forms Determines which forms are displayed in the selector. If you select multiple forms, you can change the order of the forms. This field is available if Action Type is set to Select Attribute Element.
Sort Determines how the form is sorted. Click the button to open the Sort dialog, then select a form and whether to sort it in ascending or descending order. This field is available if Action Type is set to Select Attribute Element and a source is selected.
Form Separator Defines the character that separates different forms displayed in the selector. Select a separator from the list, or choose Other and enter the character in the box. You can use up to three characters for the separator. This field is available if Action Type is set to Select Attribute Element and a source is selected.
Replace Attribute Determines the attribute that is replaced by the item in the selector. This field is available if Action Type is set to Select Attribute.
Targets
Select datasets as target Determines whether choosing an item in the selector filters the data in one or more datasets.
Panel Stack Displays the target for the selector. To change the target, select another panel stack from the drop-down list of all the panel stacks in the document.
Available Lists all available targets for the selector, such as reports and panel stacks. Select the targets and click > to add them to the Selected targets list. The target of a selector is the object that changes its display based on the user's input.
Selected Lists the targets of the selector.
Apply selections as a filter Determines whether the selector filters or slices the data. The selections made in a filtering selector are used to filter the underlying dataset before the metric values are aggregated at the level of the report that is displayed in the document. The selections made in a slicing selector are used to determine which slices of data are combined and shown in the report.
Update target filters when current selection changes Determines whether and how selectors targeted by this selector are updated when this selector is updated (when items are selected or cleared). This setting determines which items are selected or cleared in the target selector, and affects what items are displayed in the target selector's target. No matter which option is chosen, any changes made in this selector determine which items are displayed in the target selector.
- Do not update No changes are made to which items are selected or cleared in the target selector. The target of the target selector remains filtered by the selector; only those items selected in the target selector are displayed.
- Unset The target of the target selector is no longer filtered by the selector and displays all items. The status of the target selector is changed to unset.
- All All items are selected in the target selector. The target of the target selector is no longer filtered by the selector and displays all items. The status of the target is changed to all.
Mobile
Display selector docked to its panel stack Determine whether the selector is docked to its target panel stack when displayed on an iPad, iPhone, or Android device.
Advanced
Automatically update when there is no data for the current selection Determines how the target displays when no data exists. The selector that updates the first selector must target the panel stack. Clear the checkbox to display a message that no data is returned. Select the checkbox to display an item.
Show option for Total Determines whether the selector displays a total for all attributes, custom groups, consolidation elements. or metrics in the target.
Show option for All Determines whether the selector displays the All option, which displays all attribute, custom group, or consolidation elements or metrics in the target.
- Alias Replace the All option in the selector with the text you enter.
Current State Determines how the target appears when the document executes. When a user chooses items in the selector and saves the document, those selections update the Current State field. If the document is not saved, those selections are not saved and therefore the Current State field remains unchanged.
- Set to specific elements The target displays the elements that the user has chosen in the selector.
- Use first The target displays data for the first specified number of items in the selector, as defined in the Number of elements field. For example, if the selector source is Region and Number of elements is defined as two, the first two regions (Central and Mid-Atlantic) are displayed.
- Use last The target displays data for the last specified number of items in the selector, as defined in the Number of elements field. For example, if the selector source is Region and Number of elements is defined as one, the last region (Web) is displayed.
- Unset (no filter) The target is not filtered and displays data for all items in the selector. None of the selector items are selected.
Number of Elements Specify the number of selector items that appear.
Selection Type Determines whether to include or exclude data for the items in the selector.
Candidate Attributes
This option is available if the Action Type is set to Select Attribute. Select the attributes to display in the selector.
Options for a Transaction Services Selector
You can change the following options for a Transaction Services selector using the Selector options in the Properties and Formatting dialog.
Selector
Action Type Determines the type of action to perform when the user clicks the selector.
- Submit Select this option to allow the user to submit their changes and update the data in their data source.
- Recalculate Select this option to recalculate the values of derived metrics, subtotals, reapply number and date formatting, and update other values calculated by the Analytical Engine when the user clicks the selector. No data is submitted to the Transaction Services report.
- Discard Changes Select this option to allow the user to discard their changes. The user's changes to values displayed in the target report or panel stack of the selector are reverted to their values from the last time the changes were submitted.
Allow submission without network This option is for mobile only. Allows users to submit a transaction on a mobile device that is offline. When this option is enabled and the device is offline, clicking on an action selector button displays a message indicating that the transaction is temporarily queued on the device and will be submitted once it’s back online. This option does not affect a device that is online.
Require confirmation Determines whether to display a confirmation message before the user submits changes. This option is available if the Action Type is set to Submit or Discard Changes.
Subsequent Actions Specifies what action to take once the user has submitted changes. This option is available if Action Type is set to Submit.
- No subsequent action Navigate to the previous page once the user has submitted changes.
- Refresh the current document Refresh the display of the document once the user has submitted changes.
- Run a new report or document Specify a report or document to run once the user has submitted changes.
Force
Live Execution In a Transaction Services-enabled document
in which another report or document runs when the user
submits their changes, specify whether the report or document is executed using data cached on the mobile device. If you choose
to have the report or document run without using data cached on
the mobile device, the report or document is
executed automatically using data cached on the Intelligence Server, if available.
If no cached data is available on the mobile device or Intelligence
Server, the report or document is executed against the data
source. Select this option to run the report or document without
using data cached on the mobile device. This option is available
if the Action Type is set to Submit and the Run a New Report or
Document option is selected.
Answer prompts with the same answers as the source If you have chosen to have a report or document automatically run after the user submits their changes, you can choose to use the same prompt answers that were chosen in the source document to answer the prompts in the target report/document. Select this option to use the same prompt answers. This option requires that both the source and target report/document use the same prompts. The user is still prompted for any prompts that exist in the target but that do not exist in the source.
Display message after submitting Choose whether to display a message after the user has submitted changes and enter the confirmation message in the text field. This option is available if the Action Type is set to Submit.
Invalidate Mobile Device Cache A Transaction Services-enabled document that is pre-cached is run in the background, and its results are stored on the mobile device to improve the speed with which the document is run. Select this option to automatically mark a document's results as in need of updating after the user submits their changes. If the document is defined to be pre-cached, the document is automatically pre-cached each time the user submits their changes. If the document is not defined to be pre-cached, the document is automatically executed using data cached on the Intelligence Server the next time the document is run. If no cached data is available, the document is executed against the data source.
Targets
Selected Targets Add reports or panel stacks as targets.
Submit transaction in order Execute transactions in the order they appear in the Selected Targets list. Otherwise, all transactions execute at the same time.
