Layout Section of the Properties and Formatting Dialog

Use the Layout section of the Properties and Formatting dialog to format the layout of controls in your document. You can specify the width and height of a control, or how to display content that overflows the boundaries of a document. Some options are only available for certain types of controls.

Access

  1. Open a document in Design or Editable Mode.
  2. Right-click a control and choose Properties and Formatting.
  3. In the left pane, choose Layout.

Fields

Position

Determine the positioning of the control in the document. These options are not available for document sections.

Left The distance between the left edge of the control and the left border of the section.

Top The distance between the top edge of the control and the top of the section.

Locked Select this option to lock a control in its current position.

Show only in repeated sections Determines whether the control appears on the last page. If a control is in a section that repeats on every page, you can specify whether the control appears on all pages or on all pages except the last one. This allows you to display text such as "Continued on next page" on every page except the last page. This option is available for controls in any header or footer sections, except for the page header and footer.

Size

Width Select the width of a control. This option is not available for document sections or lines.

Height Select the height of the control.

Hide if Empty Select to hide sections that have no content.

Length Specify line length or set it to 100% to expand it across a section.

Content Overflow Select whether to clip content in a panel stack when it overflows or display a scroll bar so users can view the all of its contents.

Text overflow (HTML) Select whether to clip text in a text field when it overflows or display a scroll bar so users can view all of the contents.

Lock Aspect Ratio Select to lock an image's original width-to-height ratio.

Title Height

Fixed at __ Pixels Enter fixed a height for the control's title bar. This option is available for panel stacks, grids, graphs, widgets, and selectors.

Grid

Data source The dataset for the selected grid or graph. Select None to display all elements from all datasets. A grid or graph that uses multiple datasets cannot determine which metric to use, so no metric values appear.

Shortcut Determines whether to link the grid or graph to the dataset report as a shortcut. If this checkbox is selected, any changes made to the original report are automatically passed to the grid or graph in the document.

View Determines whether the grid or graph appears in grid view, graph view, or grid and graph view after document execution.

Grid Overflow (HTML) Determines whether to clip content in a grid when it overflows or display a scroll bar so users can view the all of its contents.

Grid Overflow (PDF & Excel) In PDF and Excel exports, this determines whether to clip content in the grid when it overflows or automatically resize the grid so all data is visible.

Graph Overflow (PDF) In PDF exports, this determines whether to clip the graph to fit the document size, display overflowed content below the selected graph, or display overflowed content to the right of the selected graph.

Spacing Determines the space inserted between the graph and overflowed content. This option is only available if Graph Overflow is set to Vertical or Horizontal. The default value is .5 inches.

Quick Switch Determines whether a user can switch between viewing the data in a grid or graph as a grid or a graph by clicking a button in editable or presentation mode. This checkbox is cleared by default.

Grid Position Determines where the grid report appears in relation to the graph report for grids or graphs.

Grid Area Determines the percentage of the grid or graph covered by the grid report; the remaining area is used by the graph report. The default value is 50%.

Selector

DHTML Style Determines which style to use to display the selector in editable and presentation mode.

Orientation Determines whether the items in the selector appear in a horizontal or vertical layout.

Allow multiple selections Determines whether users can select multiple items in the selector. This allows users to display data for several items in the selector at once, and specify which items are displayed in the target of the selector. This option is not available for attribute selectors.

Make all items the same width Determines whether all items in the selector appear in equal widths.

Export selector to PDF as shown on screen Determines whether the selector is exported to a PDF as shown on the screen or with only the selected items.

Search on server Determines whether searches are performed on the server or client. When this checkbox is selected, elements are fetched directly from the data warehouse or Intelligent Cube as the user performs the search.

Excel

Automatically Fit Rows Determines whether Excel automatically resizes the row heights when you export the document.

PDF

The options in the PDF category are available for document, group, detail headers, and detail footers. The options apply in presentation mode and when you export the document to PDF.

Keep together Specifies whether a page break is allowed within a section. This checkbox is clear by default, so as much of the section as possible is printed on the current page, with the remainder on the following pages. If the property is selected and the entire section does not fit on the page, the section starts on the top of the next page and continues on subsequent pages.

Repeat on each page Specify whether the contents of the selected section are repeated on each page of the PDF. Available for header and footer sections, except for the page header and page footer. To create repeated sections with controls that do not appear on the last page, you can use this property with the Show only in repeated sections property (defined for controls, not document sections).

Repeat horizontally Specify whether the entire contents of the selected section are repeated on the next horizontal page when the section spans multiple pages. Available for document, group, and detail headers.

Force new page Specifies if a page break is inserted and whether it is before, after, or before and after the current section.
