Formatting title bars of selectors

You can format the title bar of a selector separately from the selector container. (The container displays the selector items, while the title bar displays above the container, as shown in Formatting selectors.) For instructions on formatting the selector container and title bar, see Formatting selectors using the Format Objects dialog box.

Prerequisite

This procedure assumes that you have added a selector to the document. For instructions on adding selectors, see Methods to create selectors.

To format a selector title bar

  1. Open the document in the Document Editor. (How?)

  2. If the Property List is not displayed, select Property List from the View menu.

  3. If the selector does not yet have a title bar, in the Property List: View section:

    1. Set Show title bar to True.

    2. Type the text to display in the title bar in the Custom title field.

    3. If you leave this field blank, the selector's Name is displayed, unless the selector's Action Type is defined as Select attribute element. In that case, the Source of the target (such as Region) is displayed.

  4. To specify the height of the title bar, in the Property List: View section, enter the height in the Title height property.

  5. Right-click the selector and select Format. The Format Objects dialog box opens.

  6. Select Title in the object list on the left.

  7. To format the alignment (including padding), select the Alignment tab. You can change the following:

    • How the text is aligned horizontally within the title bar boundaries by changing Horizontal to Left, Center, or Right.

    • How the text is aligned vertically within the title bar boundaries by changing Vertical to Top, Center, or Bottom.

    • Add space between the text and the border of the text field by increasing Padding on the Left, Right, Top, and/or Bottom of the text field.

  8. To format the font (such as color, size, and style), select the Font tab. As you make selections, the Sample area updates to provide you with an example of your choices. For instructions, see Format the font.

  9. Use the Border tab to define the border around the title bar. For instructions, see Format the border.

  10. To format the background fill, select the Background tab. Choose one of the following:

    • To use a single color as the background, set the Background style to Solid. Use the Fill color drop-down list to select the background color.

    • To shade the title bar using gradient colors, which combine two colors:

    • Set the Background style to Gradient.

    • Use the Color 1 drop-down list to select the first color to apply to the title bar.

    • Use the Color 2 drop-down list to select the second color to apply. Color 1 and Color 2 are blended together.

    • Click one of the squares to set the direction of the shading between the two colors. The colors can blend left to right, right to left, top to bottom, or bottom to top.

If you choose Horizontal centered or Vertical centered instead, you are applying a three-way or mirror gradient, which can be displayed in Flash Mode (MicroStrategy Web) only. In other MicroStrategy Web view modes and in MicroStrategy Developer, three-way gradients are rendered as non-mirrored gradients. For more information, see Applying three-way (mirror) gradients.

    • To allow what is behind the title bar to show through, set the Background style to Transparent.

    • As you make changes, the Sample area changes to show a preview of your selections.

  11. Click OK to return to the document.
