The Results window of the Search for Objects dialog box displays the search results. The Results window displays at the bottom of the Search Editor.

If the window is not displayed, you can select Show Results Windows from the View menu.

You can select which columns to display in the Results window. See Search for Objects dialog box: Search Options for instructions.

Once search results are displayed, you can right-click an object or multiple objects, and do any of the following, depending on the object:

  • Run a document, HTML document, or report.

  • Send a document, HTML document, or report to the History List.

  • View the SQL of a report.

  • Create a document from a report.

  • Edit the object.

  • Rename the object.

  • Delete the object.

  • Create a shortcut for the object. Shortcut objects are stand-alone objects that represent links to other objects such as reports, filters, metrics, and so forth. Shortcut objects are easy pointers for navigation. See Steps to create a shortcut object from the original object for instructions.

  • Search for dependents of the object. This can allow you to view the dependents of an object before you delete that object. For more information and instructions, see Search for Dependents dialog box.

  • Search for components of the object. For more information and instructions, see Search for Components dialog box.

If you select multiple objects, the search will not return any results. On the Contained By tab of the Search for Components dialog box, select the Search for "contained by" objects recursivelycheck box, and then clickFind Now. The components of the objects are now displayed.

  • Display a hierarchy in the Hierarchy Viewer, a graphical viewer.

  • Display a logical table or warehouse partition mapping in the Table Viewer.

Project documentation is available for application and public object searches only.

  • Export your search definition and search results to a text (.txt) file. This can be a good way to keep track of changes to a project.

  • View the object's properties.

  • Translate the object.
