Creating selectors for panel stacks

Before you begin

You should be familiar with the various properties that define how a selector looks and what it controls, such as target and source. See Defining selectors for descriptions.

Selectors allow a MicroStrategy Web user to flip through the panels in a panel stack. The panel stack is the target of the selector. By default, the style of the selector is a drop-down list.

Prerequisite

You must have added a panel stack to the document, to use as the target of the selector. For instructions, see Adding panel stacks to documents.

To create a selector for a panel stack

  1. Open the document in the Document Editor. (How?)

  2. Right-click the panel stack to use as the target of the selector, and select Insert Panel Stack Selector.

A selector is created just above the panel. The selected panel stack is the target and the Action Type is set to Select Panels.

  3. The default style is a drop-down list. To change it, in the Property List: Data section, select a different style in the DHTML style field.

    • If the Property List pane is not displayed, click Property List at the bottom of the panel on the left. If the panel is not displayed at all, select Property List from the View menu.

    • Check Boxes is not available, since check boxes allow multiple selections and multiple panels cannot be displayed simultaneously.

  4. By default, autosubmission is enabled, which means that once a user chooses an item in the selector, the target immediately updates without any additional user interaction. For instructions to disable it, see Disabling automatic submission for selectors in documents.

Now that you have created the selector, you can modify properties, such as multiple selections and simultaneous display of selector items, and format it.
