Format Objects dialog box: Effects tab

Before you begin

When accessed from the Conditional Formatting dialog box, this dialog box is named Formatting rather than Format Objects.

The effects settings apply a 3D border, drop shadow, and rounded corners to the selected object. Effects are applied to the containers of Grid/Graphs, panel stacks, and selectors, and to all other controls. For example, the object could be the container of a Grid/Graph or panel stack. You cannot add effects to an individual panel; the border settings for a panel stack apply to all the panels in a panel stack.

  • 3D borders make the object appear three-dimensional, like a button.

  • A drop shadow "floats" the object on top of the background.

  • Rounded corners, which are displayed in Flash Mode only, replace square corners with round ones. They are available only for rounded rectangles and panel stack containers.

Setting drop shadows or 3D borders takes precedence over the settings on the Border tab.

Effects tab options

The 3D Borders options make the shape appear three-dimensional, like a button. They are not available for lines. These options are:

  • 3D border sets the style of the 3D border:

  • None applies the border settings, rather than a 3D border, to the object.

  • Sunken insets the object like a pushed button.

  • Raised outsets the object like a raised button.

  • Weight is the thickness of the 3D border, measured in points.

A drop shadow "floats" the object on top of the background. These options are:

  • Enable drop shadow sets whether a drop shadow is used.

  • Distance is the offset of the drop shadow, in points.

Rounded corners are displayed in Flash Mode only. They are available for panel stacks and rounded rectangles only. These options are:

  • Use rounded corners determines whether rounded corners are applied to the object in Flash Mode.

  • Radius sets how round the corners are. A larger radius produces a more rounded corner. The range is 0-20.

  • Top corners only determines whether rounded corners are displayed for the top corners only or all four corners.
