Watermark dialog box

A watermark is a faint design appearing in the background of a page, typically identifying or decorating pages. Examples include the word "Confidential" stamped on every page or a business logo appearing in the background of every page. Watermarks are displayed in PDF view only; they are not shown in Design view in MicroStrategy Developer or in Design, Editable, Interactive, Flash, or Express Mode in MicroStrategy Web.

Use the Watermark dialog box to create a project watermark, which is applied to every document in the project, or a document watermark, which is applied to a single document. The project watermark is also applied to reports when they are exported to PDF. For more information on the differences between the project and document watermarks, see Adding watermarks to documents.

You can:

  • Use the project watermark, which is applied to every document in the project. For information on creating a project watermark, see Creating the project watermark.

The project watermark option is available only when you are creating a document watermark.

  • Create a Text watermark.

  • Create an Image watermark.

  • Use No watermarks. The watermark will be blank.

If you select No watermarks while creating a project watermark, and the Allow documents to overwrite this watermark check box in the Project Configuration Editor is selected, a document displays its document watermark, if it is defined for the document. Reports do not display any watermarks when exported to PDF. See Creating document watermarks for more details.

If you select No watermarks while creating a project watermark, and the Allow documents to overwrite this watermark check box in the Project Configuration Editor is cleared, all watermarks are disabled. Neither documents nor reports display any watermarks. See Disabling all watermarks for more details.

If you select No watermarks while creating a document watermark, the document does not display any watermark, even if a project watermark has been defined. See Hiding a project watermark for a specific document for more details.

Text watermark

If you select Text watermark, the following options are available:

  • Text contains the text to display as the watermark, up to 255 characters.

  • Format allows you to change the appearance of the text. You can select the font, size, color, and so on using the Font tab of the Format Cells dialog box. Click OK when you have made your selections.

  • By default, the watermark uses the font size defined in the Format Cells dialog box. To allow the font size to automatically adjust to fill the layout, select the Size font automatically check box.

  • To fade the watermark to ensure that information on the documents is legible through the watermark, select the Washout check box.

  • By default, the text is printed diagonally across the page. To print it horizontally instead, select Horizontal in the Orientation area.

Image watermark

If you select Image watermark, the following options are available:

  • Source is the file containing the image. To select the file, click ... (the Browse button) next to the Source field. The Image Source dialog box opens. Do one of the following to select and preview the image file:

  • Type the path and file name of the image in the text field. Click Preview.

  • Click ... (the Browse button) and select the image file. The preview area automatically displays the image.

Once you've selected the image to use as the watermark, click OK.

As with images placed elsewhere on a document, the image file must be available to both the Intelligence Server and to the designers of the document. For details, see Adding images to documents.

  • By default, the image is automatically resized to fit within the document margins while retaining its aspect ratio. To scale the image manually, select a percentage from the Scale drop-down list.

The Washout option is not available for an image watermark, as you can achieve the same result by creating the image using faded or dim colors.
