View Filter dialog box

The View Filter dialog box allows you to add a view filter to a Grid/Graph. Once a view filter has been created, it can be edited, added to, or deleted using this dialog box.

A view filter restricts the amount of data displayed on a Grid/Graph, by allowing you to manipulate, redefine, and combine attributes and metrics to create new qualifications. View filters can help reduce the number of datasets used to build a document with multiple Grid/Graphs, when all of the Grid/Graphs could share a single dataset with the use of multiple filters. View filters in the Document Editor work similar to view filters in the Report Editor.

These view filters are local to the document, meaning that a view filter does not affect report results, only the Grid/Graph displayed on the document. A view filter created on a report in the Report Editor is ignored in the document, so that all the data from the report is used in the document.

View Filter dialog box layout

The View Filter dialog box contains the following areas:

  • A drop-down list of all the Grid/Graphs on the document. This allows you to select the Grid/Graph to which to apply the view filter.

  • A condition definition, which allows you to create, view, edit, and delete the view filter for the selected Grid/Graph.

  • Click Click here to start a new qualification to begin creating a new view filter. For instructions, see Creating view filters in Grid/Graphs on documents.

  • Click New to add another qualification to an existing view filter. For instructions, see Creating view filters in Grid/Graphs on documents.

By default, multiple qualifications are joined with AND, but you can change it. To change the operator that connects qualifications, click the operator and select another from the drop-down list. You cannot change the logical operator from the default AND if all of the following are true:

    • Both qualifications are metric qualifications.

    • The metric qualifications use two different metrics (for example, Revenue in Qualification 1 and Profit in Qualification 2).

    • The metric qualifications are not metric-to-metric qualifications, but instead compare the metrics to numeric values.

  • Click Clear to delete the view filter.

  • You can edit an existing qualification by clicking any of its components (attribute, metric, operator, comparison value) and making the changes. For instructions, see Editing view filters in Grid/Graphs on documents.

Accessing the View Filter dialog box

Do one of the following:

  • Right-click a Grid/Graph that is not in edit mode and select Edit View Filter. The Grid/Graph is already selected when the View Filter dialog box opens.

  • From the Data menu of the Document Editor, select Edit View Filter.

This option is available only when the document contains a Grid/Graph. Additionally, no Grid/Graphs can be in edit mode, otherwise the Data menu displays Report Editor options.

If you try to add a view filter to a Grid/Graph shortcut (a Grid/Graph that is linked to the dataset report), a message is displayed that allows you to unlink the shortcut. Click OK or Convert to unlink the shortcut. If you unlink it, any changes made to the dataset report are no longer passed to the Grid/Graph in the document.
