Format Objects dialog box: Number tab

Before you begin

When accessed from the Conditional Formatting dialog box, this dialog box is named Formatting rather than Format Objects.

The number settings allow you to select the number formatting options, such as decimal spaces, currency symbol, time format, zip code format, and so on. They are applied to text fields only.

Select the desired category to format, such as Date, from the Category list. The Settings and Sample sections of the dialog box change depending upon the category selected. The Settings area allows you to make your number formatting selections. For example, if you choose Date as your category, the Settings area allows you to choose which date format you would like to use, such as 4/12/23, April 12, 2023, 4/7/2023, and so on. Upon selecting a setting, the Sample area updates to provide you an example of your selection.

If none of the built-in number formats meet your needs, you can create your own custom number format using number format symbols. For more information, see the following topics:

Accessing the Number tab

The Number tab is available for text fields only.

To access it for a control

  1. Open the document in the Document Editor.

  2. Select the text field to format.

  3. Do one of the following to open the Format Objects dialog box:

    • Right-click the control and select Format.

    • Select Format from the Format menu.

  4. Click the Number tab.

To access it for conditional formatting

  1. Add a new conditional format or select an existing one in the Conditional Formatting dialog box.

  2. Click Formatting. The Formatting dialog box opens.

  3. Click the Number tab.
