Bar: General category

In the General category for Bar graphs, some or all of the following options are available depending on what Bar graph you are formatting:

  • Overlap: Allows you to use the slider to change how much risers within each category overlap each other. You can also use the up and down arrows to change the number in the box or you can type a number directly in the box. At -100, the bars within each group overlap each other. At +100, the bars are as far apart as possible without overlapping the next category.

  • Gap Width: Allows you to use the slider to change the gap between each group of bar risers in each category. You can also use the up and down arrows to change the number in the box, or you can type a number directly in the box. Larger values increase the distance between each group of bars, while smaller values decrease the gap between each group.

  • Riser Shape: If you selected a True 3D Column graph type in the Layout category, select a 3D riser shape from the drop-down list.

  • Display Series Lines: If you selected a Percent graph type in the Layout category, select this check box to display lines that visually connect each series.

  • Error Bar: A regular bar graph needs only one data point to display the chart but when you want to show error bars, you need two additional columns in the report with a lower and higher value. Each column is represented by a metric or an attribute element. Error bars are plus or minus one standard error of the mean. The error bars indicate that if you take many samples of the data, and calculate the mean for each, most of them lie within the range of the error bar. You have the following error bar options:

  • Show Error Bar: Displays or hides error bars on the graph report. When you select this check box, the following options are available:

  • Has Middle Value: Displays or hides a circle to represent the middle value on the graph. To select the Has Middle Value check box, the report should have four columns. The fourth column represents the middle value in the report. The middle value can be higher or lower than the high and the low values. In such a case, the circle that represents the middle value in the graph is drawn outside the error bar.

  • Width: Determines the width of the circle and the error bar.

  • Depth:The following depth options allow you to apply shadowing to the graph objects to create three-dimensional formatting for two-dimensional graph types:

  • Use Depth: Applies a depth effect or creates a flat graph. By default, all two-dimensional graphs are displayed with a depth effect applied to the graph frame and risers. When Use Depth is selected, the following options are available:

  • Depth: Allows you to use the slider to specify the amount of depth to be applied to the graph frame and risers. You can also use the up and down arrows to change the number in the box or you can type a number directly in the box.

  • Direction: Allows you to use the slider to specify the direction in which the depth is applied. You can also use the up and down arrows to change the number in the box or you can type a number directly in the box.
