MicroStrategy Preferences

The preferences for the Web Customization Editor to interact with MicroStrategy Web can be set in the MicroStrategy preferences dialog. You can launch the Preferences dialog using the instructions below.

Launch the Web Customization Editor.
Launch the Preferences dialog from Window->Preferences.
To set general MicroStrategy preferences, click MicroStrategy on the left.

The following preferences can be set in the Preferences window.
- MicroStrategy location and URL settings have the following text fields.
  - Application Root: Browse to the root folder where MicroStrategy Web is installed.
  - MicroStrategy Web URL: Enter the URL for launching MicroStrategy Web

- MicroStrategy Developer Library setting has the following options.
  - Select the check box Use MicroStrategy Developer Library Online to integrate the online version of the MSDL with the Web Customization Editor. This online MSDL version is always the Generally Available release of the most recent MicroStrategy SDK offering available on the MicroStrategy Developer Zone (MSDZ).
  - To use a local version of the MSDL, type in the absolute path in the text field for Developer Library Location or click Browse to navigate to the location of the MSDL. The location is the folder where the start page DeveloperLibrary.htm for the MSDL is installed. You can also specify the URL for the MSDL on the MSDZ in the text field.
    
    Click Validate to confirm that the Web Customization Editor can find the start pageDeveloperLibrary.htm for the MSDL.
- MicroStrategy Preferences settings have the following options.
  - The Customization Folder setting allows you to add your customization changes to an existing plug-in from the plugins folder or to specify a name for a new plug-in. Click the Change button to launch the Select Plug-in window.
  - Choose the locale setting from the Locale drop-down menu.
  - The Size of Search History setting under Enter the search history size lets you specify the number of the search words that are displayed in the search drop-down menu in the Search MicroStrategy Objects window.
  - Check the Show Advanced Options check box to view additional application settings in the Web Customization Editor. These settings include: Admin Error List, Admin Pages, Browser Settings, Error List, Export Formats, Folder Links, Folder Mappings, Property Files, Style Maps, System Defaults, System Definitions, System Pickers, Visualization Settings and Widget Settings. You can check all the settings to display them in the Application Settings view or check them on an individual basis.
To set MicroStrategy Web Services preferences, expand MicroStrategy on the left and click Web Services.

The following general preferences can be set in the Preferences window.

.Net Web Services Container
- Ant root directory:Browse to the root folder where Apache Ant is installed. Ant is required to run web services build scripts. In addition to the standard Ant installation, you must also copy the Ant Contributed Library file,ant-contrib-1.0b3.jar, to thelibsubdirectory of your Ant installation. This JAR file is required for web service build script support.
- Web Services Deployment Location:Browse to the folder where web services are deployed.
- Axis2 Location: Browse to the axis2 directory. Axis 2 is required to build web service components and run web services under Tomcat. You only need to download the Standard Binary Distribution, which is necessary to build and compile web services.
- Microsoft .NET SDK location: Browse to thebinsubfolder inside the Microsoft .NET SDK folder wherewsdl.exeis located.
Axis2 Web Services Container
- Ant root directory:Browse to the root folder where Apache Ant is installed. Ant is required to run web services build scripts. In addition to the standard Ant installation, you must also copy the Ant Contributed Library file,ant-contrib-1.0b3.jar, to thelibsubdirectory of your Ant installation. This JAR file is required for web service build script support.
- Web Services Deployment Location:Browse to the folder where web services are deployed.
- Axis2 Location:Browse to the axis2 directory. Axis 2 is required to build web service components and run web services under Tomcat. Two separate downloads are required. The Standard Binary Distribution is necessary to build and compile web services. THE WAR file is necessary to run web services inside an application server (like Tomcat).
- Axis2 kernel jar file: Browse to the axis2 kernel JAR file, axis2-kernel-1.2.jar.
- Microsoft .NET SDK location: Browse to the bin subfolder inside the Microsoft .NET SDK folder where wsdl.exe is located.

Click OK.
