MicroStrategy ONE
Upgrading to a newer version of MicroStrategy Web
For customizations, MicroStrategy Web uses a plug-in structure where changes are saved as a set of delta files (called a plug-in) that can be preserved during an upgrade. The delta files in a plug-in are applied at runtime, with no requirement to compile or modify the source code to deploy the customization changes. To preserve your customizations when you upgrade to a newer version of MicroStrategy Web, you copy the contents of the plugins folder in your current installation to the plugins folder in your new installation directory.
To ensure that your customizations work correctly after an upgrade, we have provided a checklist of actions you should take before and after the upgrade. We have also provided a set of best practices and guidance on how to handle issues and conflicts that may come up during an upgrade.
Some of the pre- and post-upgrade actions are part of the recommended best practices for customizing MicroStrategy Web and may already be done. If they are not yet done, perform them now as part of your upgrade process and make them part of your best practice actions going forward.
