Prompt Generation Wizard

The Prompt Generation Wizard allows you to create and edit prompts. A prompt allows users to provide answers to complete the prompt during report execution, which lets each user filter report data for the information that they want to see. For more information, see the following links:

Prompt Generation Wizard contents

The Prompt Generation Wizard opens on a Welcome page, where you can select which type of prompt to create. For information about choosing a prompt type, see Types of prompts. The page that is displayed next depends on the prompt type that you selected:

Click Next to advance to the next page of the wizard. Click Back to go back to the previous page. Click Cancel at any time to exit the wizard without saving any changes.

Accessing the Prompt Generation Wizard

Do one of the following:

To create a new prompt

In MicroStrategy Developer, log into a project, select File, then New, and then Prompt. The wizard opens at the Welcome page.

To edit an existing prompt

  1. Navigate through the Folder List on the left to locate the prompt to modify.

  2. Select the prompt by double-clicking its name or icon. The wizard opens at the appropriate page for the prompt type. For example, if you access an object prompt, the Object prompt page of the wizard opens.

To create a prompt from the Filter Editor

Creating a prompt from the Filter Editor allows you to create a prompted filter. The prompt that you create is saved within the filter; it cannot be used in another filter or other object.

Depending on the type of prompt that you want to create, do one of the following:

  • To create a prompt for the filter, click Prompt on one of the following interfaces in the Filter Editor:

  • Attribute Qualification pane

  • Set Qualification pane: Metric qualification

  • Shortcut to a Report pane

  • Shortcut to a Filter pane

  • To create a value prompt, which allows the user to select a single value on which to qualify, click Simple Prompt on one of the following interfaces in the Filter Editor:

  • Attribute Qualification pane

  • Set Qualification pane: Metric qualification
