Prompt Generation Wizard: Object Prompt page

An object prompt allows a user to select, during report execution, which objects to include in the report. These objects can be attributes, metrics, custom groups, and so on. An object prompt can be used on the report grid or in a filter.

One prompt can contain different types of objects, such as both metrics and attributes, or attributes and custom groups. This reduces the number of prompts that are needed for a report. However, if you use metrics and another type of object, when the prompt is used in a report:

  • If a metric is the first object in the list, all non-metric objects are removed.

  • If a non-metric is the first object in the list, all metrics are removed.

This ensures that, for example, both attributes and metrics are not included on the rows of a report. Alternatively, you can create one object prompt for the metrics and another for the other types of objects.

This page allows you to create the list of objects from which the user can select. Restricting the number of objects to be displayed can serve a number of purposes, including performance improvement, security, and simplification of the display.

Choose one of the following options:

  • Use a pre-defined list of objects allows you to select the objects manually. Use the buttons described below to create the list.

  • Add opens the Select Objects dialog box, which allows you to choose the objects for the list.

Once an object has been selected, this button is replaced by Modify, which opens the Select Objects dialog box so you can select additional objects.

  • Remove deletes the selected object from the list.

  • Clear deletes all the objects in the list.

  • Up and Down arrows move the selected object to change the order the objects are displayed in the prompt.

  • Use the results of a search object to use a set of objects from a search object. Use the buttons described below to set the search object.

  • Browse uses an existing search.

  • New creates a new search. For instructions, see the list of Search for Objects procedures.

After you set the search object, use the following buttons to make changes:

    • Clear to delete the search object.

    • Edit to open the Search for Objects dialog box and modify the search.

      • The Display using folder structure check box shows the object path (folder hierarchy). This option, available for search objects only, is useful when the same object with the same name is saved in multiple folders.
