Prompt Generation Wizard: Choose from All Attributes in a Hierarchy page

A Choose from all attributes in a hierarchy prompt allows a user to select, during report execution, attributes and attribute elements from hierarchies. This type of prompt is used in a filter or a custom group element.

This page allows you to select the hierarchies from which the user can select objects. Restricting the number of objects to be displayed can serve a number of purposes, including performance improvement, security, and simplification of the display.

Choose one of the following options:

  • List all hierarchies (no restrictions) displays all the hierarchies in the project.

  • Choose a hierarchy object allows you to select a specific hierarchy, in either of the following ways:

    • Enter the name of the hierarchy.

    • Click Browse to display the hierarchies in the project.

  • Use the results of a search object to use a set of hierarchies from a search object. Use the buttons described below to set the search object.

  • Browse uses an existing search.

  • New creates a new search. For instructions, see the list of Search for Objects procedures.

After you set the search object, use the following buttons to make changes:

  • Clear to delete the search object.

  • Edit to open the Search for Objects dialog box and modify the search.

  • Use a predefined list of hierarchies to select the hierarchies manually. Use the buttons described below to create the list.

  • Add opens the Select Objects dialog box, which allows you to choose the hierarchies for the list.

  • Once a hierarchy has been selected, this button is replaced by Modify, which opens the Select Objects dialog box so you can select additional hierarchies.

  • Remove deletes the selected hierarchy from the list.

  • Clear deletes all the hierarchies in the list.

  • Up and Down arrows move the selected hierarchy to change the order the objects are displayed in the prompt.

The options in the Displayed forms drop-down list set how the attribute forms in the hierarchy are displayed. They are:

  • All attribute forms, which displays all attribute forms. This is the default setting.

  • Browse forms, which displays only the browse forms defined in the Attribute Editor.

  • Report display forms, which displays only report display forms defined in the Attribute Editor.

The actual number of attribute forms displayed during prompt resolution depends on the attribute definition and on how the attribute forms are categorized.
