MicroStrategy ONE

Object Browser pane

In the Freeform SQL Editor, located on the left is the Object Browser, which displays all the objects related to Freeform SQL reports. Although all folders in the project are displayed here, some of them do not contain any objects, if they are not related to the Freeform SQL reports.

For example, although you can browse to the Facts folder, you cannot find any fact objects there because they are not used with Freeform SQL reports.

Folders that are related to Freeform SQL reports include the following:

  • Freeform Objects: This folder is created when the first Freeform SQL report is created. The folder contains all the new objects created and used in all Freeform SQL reports against all database instances.

  • Attributes: Under the Schema folder, the Attribute folder contains all the attributes previously defined in the project. You can use these existing attributes' names when mapping the columns in the SQL statement to those to be used in the MicroStrategy environment.

  • Prompts: Under the Public Objects folder, the Prompts folder contains existing prompts in the project that you can use in the SQL statement.

Only value prompts and element list prompts can be used in Freeform SQL reports. For more information, click this link.

  • Warehouse Catalog: This folder is only available when the database instance selected is a relational database (not an SAP BW source). This folder lists all the tables and their columns available in the selected database instance.

You can browse to other folders within the project if you have saved objects, such as prompts, in different folders.

By default, when the Freeform SQL Editor is opened, Object Browser displays the Freeform Objects folder that contains all the objects for existing Freeform SQL reports.

The options related to Freeform SQL reports that are available in the Object Browser pane are the following:

Tips:

  • Double-clicking an attribute form or a metric in Object Browser inserts the attribute form or metric into the first empty row in the Mapping pane.

  • Double-clicking the name of a prompt in Object Browser inserts the prompt into the SQL statement where the cursor is positioned.

  • You can select multiple objects in Object Browser by using the CTRL or SHIFT keys.
