MicroStrategy ONE
Overview of Freeform SQL reports
The Freeform SQL functionality allows you to use your own SQL statements to generate reports, instead of using the MicroStrategy Engine-generated SQL. With your own customized SQL statements, you can retrieve data from various data sources that are relational databases as long as the database instances for these data sources are included in a MicroStrategy project. Other data sources include Excel files and text files. In addition, you also can create Freeform SQL reports from stored procedures.
Freeform SQL reports can be created only on MicroStrategy Developer. However, once created, these reports can be executed from both MicroStrategy Developer and MicroStrategy Web. In addition, they can be included in Report Services documents in the same way as standard reports.
When creating Freeform SQL reports, you can use the SQL statements that you previously defined or create new ones from scratch. You could even re-use the MicroStrategy Engine-generated SQL for certain reports by modifying the SQL statement and turning it to customized SQL to suit your special needs.
It is your responsibility to ensure the correctness and reliability of your SQL statements before using the Freeform SQL functionality.
