Formatting panel stacks using the Property List

Before you begin

You should be familiar with the different parts of a panel stack. See Defining the parts of a panel stack for detailed descriptions.

The Property List allows you to set the position, size, appearance, and title bar information for a panel stack. Some properties apply to the entire panel stack, while others apply to the current panel (the panel that is displayed) only. For more information on the current panel, see Choosing the panel to display initially: the current panel. You cannot format the title bar using the Property List; use the Format Objects dialog box instead. For instructions, see Formatting panel stack title bars.

Prerequisite

This procedure assumes you have added a panel stack to the document. For instructions, see Adding panel stacks to documents.

To format a panel stack

  1. Open the document to be formatted. (How?)

  2. If the Property List pane is not displayed, click Property List at the bottom of the panel on the left. If the panel is not displayed at all, select Property List from the View menu.

  3. Select the panel stack to format.

  4. You can change the Name, which identifies the panel stack.

  5. To make the panel stack appear three-dimensional, like a button, apply a 3D effect:

    • Change 3D effect to either Sunken (to inset the panel stack, like a pushed button) or Raised (to outset the panel stack, like a button).

    • Enter the thickness of the 3D line, measured in points, in 3D weight.

The 3D effect border takes precedence over any existing border. If you later disable the 3D effect, the original border settings are automatically restored.

  6. To change the background color of the current panel (the panel that is displayed), select a new Backcolor using the Color dialog box.

  7. Change the Backstyle property to specify whether the background of the current panel (the panel that is displayed) is:

    • Transparent, which allows you to see what is behind the current panel.

    • Opaque, which covers what is behind the current panel. It also allows the fill color of the current panel to be seen.

    • Gradient, which blends two colors together. For more information, see Steps to apply gradient colors.

  8. To define the style and color of the borders around the panel stack:

    • Click the button in the Border field. The Border tab of the Format Objects dialog box opens.

    • Select the border style and which borders to apply it to. See Steps to format borders for further instructions.

  9. To "float" the panel stack on top of the background, apply a drop shadow:

    • Set Drop shadow to True.

    • Enter the offset of the drop shadow, in points, in Drop shadow depth.

  10. To apply gradient colors, which blend two colors to create a gradual color change in the background of the current panel (the panel that is displayed), see Steps to apply gradient colors.

  11. To display rounded corners on the panel stack in Flash Mode in MicroStrategy Web:

    • Set Use rounded corners to True.

    • Enter a number in the Rounded corner radius, which defines how round the corners are. A larger radius produces a more rounded corner. The range is 0-20.

    • To display rounded corners on the top only, set Top corners only to True. To display them on all four corners, set Top corners only to False.

  12. To display a pop-up tooltip, enter the text in Tooltip.

  13. To hide the panel stack in PDF view, set Visible to False.

The selector is still displayed in Design View.

  14. To enable a transition animation, which is run only in Flash Mode in MicroStrategy Web:

    • Select a type of transition animation from the drop-down list in Selected transition. This is the animation that is run when users switch to Flash Mode in MicroStrategy Web.

    • Select a Speed from the drop-down list. This determines how quickly the transition animation runs.

  15. The left margin is the distance between the left edge of the panel stack and the left border of the section. Enter a new number in the Left property.

  16. The top margin is the distance between the top edge of the panel stack and the top of the section. Enter a new number in the Top property.

  17. To change the height of the panel stack, enter the new number in the Height property.

  18. To change the width of the panel stack, enter the new number in the Width property.

  19. To display a title bar, which helps to identify the panel stack and provide a dashboard look to your documents, set Show title bar to True.

  20. To set what is displayed in the title bar, select one of the following:

    • To display the name of the current panel, select Name of current panel. This name is defined in the Panels tab of the Properties dialog box.

    • To display the title of the panel stack, select Title of panel stack. By default, the title is blank. To change it, enter text in the Title field.
