Applying 3D effects to controls

You can make controls appear three-dimensional, like a button. The 3D effect can be either:

  • Raised, or outset, like a raised button

  • Sunken, or inset, like a pushed button

In addition to determining whether the control is raised or sunken, you can set the thickness of the line around the control.

For examples of 3D effects, refer to the Formatting Documentschapter of the Document Creation Help.

You can use the 3D effect on the following types of controls:

Prerequisite

This procedure assumes you have already created one of the controls listed above.

To apply a 3D effect to a control

The 3D effect border takes precedence over any existing border. If you later disable the 3D effect, the original border settings are restored.

  1. Open the document to be formatted in the Document Editor. (How?)

  2. Select the control to be formatted.

  3. From the Format menu, select Format. The Format Objects dialog box opens.

  4. If you are formatting a Grid/Graph, panel stack, or selector, select Container in the object list on the left. You cannot apply a drop shadow to only the title bar; the 3D effect applies to the entire object, including the title bar and container.

  5. Click the Effects tab.

  6. Set 3D Border to either:

    • Sunken, to inset the control like a pushed button

    • Raised, to outset the text like a button

  7. Set Weight to the thickness of the 3D line, measured in points.

  8. Click OK to return to the document.

You can also apply the 3D effect using the Property List.
