Searching for objects in Freeform SQL reports and Query Builder reports

You can search for objects related to Freeform SQL reports and Query Builder reports, just as you can for standard reports. You can conduct the search in the Search for Objects dialog box, where you define the search for either a specific object or a group of objects meeting certain criteria. For more information on the search functionality, see Search for Objects dialog box: Options.

You can access the Search for Objects dialog box directly from the MicroStrategy Developer window by selecting Search for Objects from the Tools menu. You can also access it from the Object Manager by selecting Search for Objects from the Tools menu.

The search feature also allows you to search for managed objects in Freeform SQL reports and Query Builder reports. Managed objects are created when you use new objects (attributes, attribute forms, and metrics) to which to map columns in SQL statements. Managed objects only apply to Freeform SQL reports and Query Builder reports. Once managed objects are displayed in the Search result, you can delete, rename, or edit any one of them by right-clicking its name. For more information on managed objects, refer to the Creating Freeform SQL Reports and Query Builder Reports chapter in the Advanced Reporting Help.

Follow the directions below in order for managed objects to show up in a search result:

  1. In the Search for Objects dialog box, select Options on the Tools menu. The Search Options dialog box opens.

  2. Select Display Managed Objects.

  3. To search for managed objects only, select Display Managed Objects Only.

Follow these guidelines when you search by a certain database instance using the Contains criterion:

  • Do not make any selection in either the Contains any object of this type or Does not contain any object of this type drop-down lists.

  • In the Contains the following objects drop-down list, click Add, and then select the correct database name in the Select Objects dialog box.

  • Select the check box for Search for "contained" objects recursively.

  • If you change the database for a report, for example, from Freeform Database1 to Freeform Database2, when you conduct the search by database instance using Contains, the report name shows up in the search result for both database instances.
