MicroStrategy ONE
Use MicroStrategy Mobile for iOS on the iPhone 5, 6 and 6 Plus
The MicroStrategy Mobile application is iPhone5/6/6+-enabled, allowing it to take advantage of the new larger screens. The application identifies itself with iOS as iPhone 5/6/6+-enabled by including a splash screen with the following dimensions and names:
- iPhone 6 Plus
1920 X 1080 pixels
Default-736h@3x.png - iPhone 6
1334 X 750 pixels screen resolution
Default-667h@2x.png - iPhone 5
1136 x 640 pixels
Default-568h@2x.png
Once the MicroStrategy Mobile application is recognized as iPhone 5/6/6+-enabled, it will always be run using the full height and width of the screen. Since the aspect ratios for the iPhone 5, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus are almost identical, documents that were developed for the iPhone 5 can be used on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. However, because the display is scaled to the larger screen size, the content will not be displayed in its optimal resolution. To take full advantage of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus resolution, you should create separate mobile views for each device type.
Documents that were developed for the iPhone 4 cannot be scaled to the new larger screen sizes because the iPhone 4 had a different aspect ratio from later versions. Users can choose to fully leverage the new iPhone 5/6/6+ screen sizes, or they can continue to use documents that were designed for the iPhone 4. The considerations for each approach are described below.
-
Use Mobile Views to optimize the same document for iPhone 4 and iPhone 5, 6 and 6 Plus
-
Continue using iPhone 4 documents on the iPhone 5, 6 and 6 Plus
Use Mobile Views to optimize the same document for iPhone 4 and iPhone 5, 6 and 6 Plus
You can create Mobile Views to define how a document appears on devices with different screen sizes and format the display properties for each Mobile View. For example, you can create separate Mobile Views optimized for iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPhonee6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The document is automatically displayed using the Mobile View that most closely matches the resolution (height and width) of the device's screen. See the MicroStrategy Mobile Design and Administration Guide for a detailed description of how to create and use Mobile Views.
The dimensions of the new iPhone 6 Plus are 1920 X 1080 pixels, the dimensions of the new iPhone 6 are 1334 X 750 pixels, and the dimensions of the iPhone 5 are 1136 x 640 pixels. The dimensions of the iPhone 4 were 960 X 640 pixels. To fully leverage the larger screen sizes, do the following:
-
Modify your document definitions to include additional views designed specifically to use the full size of the iPhone 5, 6 and 6 Plus The aspect ratio for the iPhone 4 was 3:2; the aspect ratio for the iPhone 5, 6 and 6 Plus is 16:9. This change in aspect ratio affects any existing applications that have made assumptions on the screen size and have placed any components on specific coordinates assuming that the height of the screen is 960 pixels. It also affects applications where an image is used as the background of the application and the image has a fixed height of 960 pixels.
-
Install the new mobile server.
-
Change a mobile server configuration setting.
A mobile server configuration property named "Documents use full screen size on iPhone 5" indicates whether the document view controller should use the full height of the screen or whether it should run in letterbox mode when running on an iPhone 5, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6 Plus device. The default value is false. When the property doesn't exist in the configuration, it is assumed to be false. In order to use the full iPhone 5/6/6 Plus screen, this property must be set to true. When a Visual Insight analysis is run via Airplay, the selector panel and the remote control screen use the full height of the screen even when the "Documents use full screen size on iPhone 5" setting is set to "false".
- Provide properly sized and named images to replace the out-of-the-box images provided by MicroStrategy, if you have rebranded the MicroStrategy Mobile application and provided your own splash screens (that is, launch images). The image sizes and names must correspond to the values shown in the table above.
Continue using iPhone 4 documents on the iPhone 5, 6 and 6 Plus
Users can continue to use the document views they created for the iPhone 4 resolution. By default, these iPhone 4-optimized views will be "letter-boxed". Letterboxed means that the application will render as if it was running on an iPhone 4 in terms of height, with black rectangles used to center the content on the screen. In portrait mode, the document view controller will add
The letterbox mode affects only the document view controller. Other controllers will run in full iPhone 5, 6 and 6 Plus mode and will automatically be stretched to handle the additional height appropriately. For example, the folder browsing controller will accommodate more rows of objects. It will require less scrolling, but it does not need a new design. The settings controller is a similar case. It already scrolls vertically, so it will adapt itself to the longer screen correctly, simply scrolling less.
When the document view controller is running in letterbox mode, the following viewers will be rendered within the boundaries of the
- Information Windows
- Full-screen widgets
- Annotation UI
- Page-by selector
- Layout tab selector
- Action sheet
- Prompt panel
- Built-in web browser
The PDF built-in reader and the built-in email composer will not be rendered in a letterbox.
Use docked footers on an iPhone 5, 6 and 6 Plus
For any content that you want to always appear at the bottom of the screen on the taller iPhone 5, 6 and 6 Plus screens, you need to do the following:
-
Place the content on the Page Footer section of an iPhone-optimized document template.
By default, document templates that are optimized for an iPhone have only a Body section. You must enable the Page Footer section to make it visible.
To enable this section, choose Document Properties from the Tools menu, and then choose Layout Properties -> Sections on the Properties dialog and select the Page Footer check box.
-
Set a property on the Page Footer section of the document template.
The "Dock to bottom of screen (Mobile only)" property causes the footer section to always appear flush with the bottom of the screen, regardless of the screen size. By default, this property is set to "false" for both new and updated documents.
To set this property, right-click the Page Footer section and choose Properties and Formatting. On the Properties and Formatting dialog, choose Properties -> General and select the Dock to bottom of screen (Mobile only) check box.
There is a similar property, called "Dock to top of screen (Mobile only)", which causes the header section to always appear flush with the top of the screen.
