MicroStrategy ONE

Setting panel stack properties using the Properties dialog box

Before you begin

You should be familiar with the different parts of a panel stack. See Defining the parts of a panel stack for detailed descriptions.

You can specify the position, size, and title bar information for a panel stack using the Properties dialog box.

Prerequisite

This procedure assumes you have added a panel stack to the document. For instructions, see Adding panel stacks to documents.

To set panel stack properties

  1. Open the document in the Document Editor. (How?)

  2. Right-click the panel stack to modify, and select Properties. The Properties dialog box opens.

  3. The properties are described in the order of the tabs on the Properties dialog box. To skip to a different section of this procedure, click one of the following:

  4. Click the General tab.

  5. You can change the Name, which identifies the panel stack.

  6. To hide the panel stack in PDF view, set Visible to False.

The selector is still displayed in Design View.

  7. You can display a tooltip, which is pop-up text that is displayed when a user positions the cursor over the panel stack in MicroStrategy Web. Enter the text in Tooltip.

  8. To display a title bar, which helps to identify the panel stack and provide a dashboard look to your documents, select the Show title bar check box.

  9. To set what is displayed in the title bar, select one of the following in Title bar display:

    • To display the name of the current panel, select Name of current panel. This name is defined in the Panels tab of the Properties dialog box.

    • To display the title of the panel stack, select Title of panel stack. By default, the title is blank. To change it, enter text in the Title field.

Title is available only if Show title bar is selected.

  10. By default, selector arrows are displayed on the panel stack's title bar. These arrows allow a user to switch between panels in MicroStrategy Web and Flash View in MicroStrategy Developer, as shown in Panel selector arrows on the title bar. To hide these arrows, clear the Allow current panel to be changed without selector check box. If you hide the arrows, you should add a selector that targets the panel stack, so that users can change panels.

This setting also determines whether or not swiping a panel stack switches panels, in a document displayed on an iPad that has the MicroStrategy Mobile application. If the check box is cleared, swiping is disabled. For background information on changing panels in iPad documents, see the MicroStrategy Mobile Analysis Help.

  11. You can use this panel stack as an Information Window for a Grid/Graph used as selector in MicroStrategy Mobile for iPad. An Information Window lets users view additional information about an attribute element by tapping the element in a grid or graph.

Before you select the Use as Information Window for template selectorscheck box, ensure that the panel stack contains the appropriate information, and is defined as a target of a Grid/Graph used as a selector. For complete instructions, prerequisites, and an example, see Defining Information Windows for iPad documents.

  12. To determine how the panels in the panel stack are loaded in MicroStrategy Web, select one of the following in Pre-load (DHTML only):

    • Inherit from document: Uses the document-level setting, which is defined in Document Properties dialog box: Advanced.

    • All panels: Loads all panels when the document is executed in MicroStrategy Web.

    • Current panel only: Loads only the first panel (the current panel) when the document is executed in MicroStrategy Web; other panels are loaded when the user requests them (on-demand loading).

On-demand panel loading occurs when the document is executed in MicroStrategy Web with DHTML enabled. In MicroStrategy Developer, only the current panel is displayed, selectors are not active, and therefore other panels are not available. On-demand panel loading does not occur in Flash View (MicroStrategy Developer) or Flash Mode (MicroStrategy Web). If your browser supports DHTML, DHTML is enabled in MicroStrategy Web by default. For more information on DHTML, and instructions to enable it, see the MicroStrategy Web Help.

Margin and size properties (Layout tab)

  1. Select the Layout tab.

  2. The left margin is the distance between the left edge of the panel stack and the left border of the section. Enter a new number in the Left field.

  3. The top margin is the distance between the top edge of the panel stack and the top of the section. Enter a new number in the Top field.

  4. To change the height of the panel stack, enter the new number in the Height field.

  5. To change the width of the panel stack, enter the new number in the Width field.

  6. To change the height of the title bar, enter the new number in the Title height field.

  7. By default, the panel stack displays a scroll bar if the contents of the panel stack are larger than the panel stack itself, because Content overflow is set to Scroll. For example, a wide Grid/Graph can trigger the scroll bar. This scroll bar is displayed in:

    • Flash View in MicroStrategy Developer

    • Express Mode, Flash Mode, and Interactive Mode in MicroStrategy Web

    • When the document is exported to Flash

    • Other views/modes are clipped, except for PDF View in MicroStrategy Developer, which is controlled by the Clip contents of panel stack when exporting setting (described below). When the document is exported to Excel, the full panel stack is always displayed.

    • You can turn off the scroll bars, by selecting Clip from the Content overflow drop-down list. A user can only see the text that can fit within the size of the panel stack.

    • Flash transition animation, exporting, and iPad swipe properties (Advanced tab)

  8. Click the Advanced tab.

  9. You can determine whether or not to Clip contents of panel stack when exporting. This setting affects PDF View in MicroStrategy Developer and document exporting to all file types except Flash. Export to Flash is controlled by the Content overflow, which is described above.

    • By default, the check box is selected. If the contents of a panel stack are bigger than the panel stack itself (for example, a wide Grid/Graph), the object is clipped and not fully displayed when the document is exported, since panel stacks cannot grow in size.

    • If you clear the check box, the contents of the panel stack are not clipped. If the contents are bigger than the panel stack, the panel stack is essentially not exported, allowing the contents to be fully displayed.

  10. You can enable a transition animation, which is run only in Flash Mode (MicroStrategy Web). For more information, see Enabling transition animations for Grid/Graphs and panel stacks in Flash Mode (Web). To define it:

    • Select a type of transition animation from the drop-down list in Selected transition. This is the animation that will be used when users switch to Flash Mode in MicroStrategy Web.

    • Select a Speed from the drop-down list. This determines how quickly the transition animation runs.

  11. By default, selector arrows are displayed on the panel stack's title bar. These arrows allow a user to switch between panels. You can hide these arrows by clearing the Enable horizontal swipe to change panels check box. For an example and more details on how they work, see Hiding panel selector arrows on the title bar.

Clearing this check box also disables changing panels in iPad documents by horizontal swiping. For background information on using selectors in iPad documents, see the MicroStrategy Mobile Analysis Help.

  12. Click OK when you have completed setting the properties. You are returned to the Document Editor.
