MicroStrategy ONE

Document Editor menu bar options: Insert

Options in this menu allow you to insert the document components listed below.

  • New Metric opens the Input Metric Formula dialog box which allows you to create derived metrics (which can be defined and applied dynamically) based on metrics in the dataset.

  • Text inserts a text field, which can contain static text or data from a dataset.

  • Image adds a picture, such as a logo or icon, to the document.

  • Line adds a line to the document (to separate areas, for example).

  • Shapes adds either a rectangle (with square corners) or a rounded rectangle (with rounded corners and no border) to the document; select which shape to add. See Adding rectangles to documents for more information.

To insert a rectangle, point to the menu option, choose Rectangle or Rounded Rectangle, and then click in the desired section in the Layout area. If you click and drag in the section, you can size the control.

  • Report adds a new dataset and a Grid/Graph to the document at the same time. A Grid/Graph acts as a standard MicroStrategy report. See Adding Grid/Graphs and new datasets simultaneously for more information.

  • Grid inserts a Grid/Graph placeholder that displays as a grid. A Grid/Graph placeholder is an empty Grid/Graph, without a dataset to populate the Grid/Graph with data.

  • Graph inserts a Grid/Graph placeholder that displays as a graph. A Grid/Graph placeholder is an empty Grid/Graph, without a dataset to populate the Grid/Graph with data.

To insert a Grid/Graph placeholder that displays as a graph, point to the menu option, choose the graph style, and then click in the desired section in the Layout area. If you click and drag in the section, you can size the control. For descriptions of the various graph styles, see Description of available graph styles.

  • Panel Stack adds a panel stack, which is a collection of panels. Panels allow the user to see different predefined views of data in the same document. When you add a panel stack to a document, one panel is automatically added to the panel stack.

  • HTML Container inserts an HTML container, which is used to display Flash and AJAX content in the document. When viewed in MicroStrategy Web, this content displays as though it is in an HTML browser within the document. This allows a document to display Flash information when the document itself is not in Flash Mode.

To insert any of the above controls, select the menu option, then click in the desired section in the Layout area. If you click and drag in the section, you can size the control. The exceptions are the Shapes and Graph options, which require you to select a type of rectangle or graph style, respectively.

  • Selector adds a selector, which allows a user, in Interactive Mode, Editable Mode, and Flash Mode in MicroStrategy Web, to flip through the panels in a panel stack, display different elements or metrics in a Grid/Graph, filter on a metric's values, or filter another selector.

To insert a selector, point to the menu option, choose the type of selector, and then click in the desired section in the Layout area. If you click and drag in the section, you can size the control.

  • Auto Text adds an auto text code, such as Page Number or Document Execution Time, to the document.

To insert an auto text code, point to the menu option, choose the type of auto text code, and then click in the desired section in the Layout area. If you click and drag in the section, you can size the control.

An auto text code is added as a text field at the upper left corner of the selected section. You can then reposition it as desired.

  • Insert Section Above adds a section above the selected section.

  • Insert Section Below adds a section below the selected section.

The section options are available only if a section is selected. You cannot insert a section into the Detail section.

  • Layout adds a new layout to the document. Each layout functions as a separate document, with its own grouping, page setup, and so on, but the layouts are generated into a single PDF document. A tab for each layout is displayed above the Grouping panel. Opens the New Document dialog box.

When you are editing a Grid/Graph, the Insert menu changes to provide some of the options available in the Report Editor. For more information, see Report Editor menu bar options: Insert.
