Version 2021

Creating a joint element list qualification

In a filter, a joint element list qualification joins attribute elements and then filters the result sets that display on a report. When you create a joint element list qualification, you choose attribute elements from different attributes to filter the report result set. Unlike attribute qualifications, joint element lists also allow you to join attribute elements and then filter on that attribute result set.

For example, if you choose the attributes Year and Store, you can create a filter using the joint element list created by elements from both attributes.

As shown in the example above, a joint element list allows you to filter not only on a particular year, but also on a store during that year.

For more information and additional examples, refer to the Advanced Filters chapter of the Advanced Reporting Help.

Prerequisite

By default, the Add an Advanced qualification option is disabled in the Filter Editor. You must activate the advanced qualification option to create a joint element list qualification.

To create a joint element list qualification

  1. Open the Filtering Options pane of the Filter Editor, if it is not already open. (How?)

  2. Select Add an Advancedqualification and click OK. The Advanced Qualification pane opens.

  3. Select Joint element list from the Option drop-down list.

  4. Select the desired attributes from the list of Available attributes, and click > to move them to the list of Selected attributes. Each attribute also appears as a column on the Element list.

Select all the attributes that you want to use before continuing to the next step.

  5. Click the Add icon to add a row of elements to the list. By default, for every row that is added, the first element for each attribute is displayed as a sample. You can add as many element rows as you require.

  6. You can modify each element row to create the element combinations for the joint element list, as outlined below:

    • Select a row in the Element list and click the Modify icon. The Select Element List dialog box opens.

    • Select an attribute from the Available Elements drop-down list. The attribute elements are displayed in the DESC list box.

Only 50 elements are displayed at a time. To view and select additional elements, clickPrevious 50 and Next 50.

    • Select the attribute elements from the DESC list and click > to move them to the Selected Elements list.

    • After all elements in this row are modified, click OK.

  7. Click OK to close the Advanced Qualification pane.

  8. Do one of the following:

    • Add more qualifications to the filter. Double-click in the Filter definition pane to open the Filtering Options pane again. These can be joint element list qualifications or any other types of qualifications.

If you have multiple qualifications, you can change the operator connecting them. To do this, right-click the operator in the Filter definition pane, point to Toggle operator, then select the new operator from the list.

    • Save the filter. (How?)
