MicroStrategy ONE

Specifying column width manually (Fixed Column Width)

You can work with column widths and row heights in a Grid/Graph that is displayed as a grid. Fixed column width mode allows you to size the columns using handles. When a Grid/Graph with automatic column widths is reset to fixed column width, all column widths from the row axis are preserved. The metric column widths are based on each metric's maximum width. Column handles are turned on.

Prerequisites

To specify column width manually

  1. Open the document in the Document Editor. (How?)

  2. Double-click the Grid/Graph to enable edit mode. A red hashed border displays around the Grid/Graph, and the menu options and toolbar change.

    • If the Edit icon is displayed in the upper left corner of the Grid/Graph, you can click the icon to enter edit mode.

    • If the Grid/Graph is a shortcut, you cannot edit it because it is linked to the original report. A message appears, allowing you to choose whether to unlink the shortcut. If you click OK, changes made to the original report are no longer passed to the Grid/Graph in the document.

  3. On the Grid menu, select Options. The Grid Options dialog box opens.

  4. On the Columns and Rows tab, select Fixed.

  5. From the drop-down list, select the type of width to specify:

    • All Columns to set the width of all the columns on the Grid/Graph.

    • All Row Axis to set the width for the columns on the row axis (the attributes). Use this setting if there are no metrics on the Grid/Graph, either because the dataset report has no metrics or the metrics have been moved to Report Objects.

    • All Grid to set the width of the data columns (the metrics).

    • Attribute form name to set the width for the specified attribute form. Each attribute form in the dataset report is listed.

    • Metrics to set the width of the column named "Metrics", which holds the column axis headers.

    • Metric name to set the column width for the specified metric. Each metric in the dataset report is listed. All instances of this metric use this width, including those in the page axis.

  6. Enter the column width in Inches.

  7. Select one of the following row height settings:

    • Auto Row Height to allow row heights to be determined automatically.

    • Fixed Row Height to allow you to specify the height of the rows. Enter the number of Inches for the row height.

If both column widths and row heights are fixed, column width is applied first and then row heights.

  8. Click OK. You are returned to the document.

  9. You can now resize the columns using the handles in the Grid/Graph.

  10. To exit edit mode, press ESC.
