MicroStrategy ONE

Configure Single Node Telemetry

Client telemetry was introduced in MicroStrategy 2021 Update 8 (December 2022). Starting in MicroStrategy 2021 Update 9, this preview feature is out-of-the-box.

A single node telemetry configuration can be used to process data from one or more MicroStrategy Intelligence server clusters. This topic discusses how to configure single node telemetry on your enterprise platform.

You have the flexibility to install single node telemetry on:

  • Servers in a separate environment. For example you could have a Platform Analytics and Telemetry server on Machine 1 and Intelligence server(s) installed on Machine 2 (or 3 and beyond for Intelligence server clusters).

  • The same environment that hosts your Intelligence server or one of its clusters.

Get started with the following topics:

Installation Restrictions

Currently, Telemetry server is an integral part of Intelligence server installation.

If you choose a single node telemetry configuration, where your Telemetry server is installed on a separate environment, you must install both Intelligence and Telemetry servers in conjunction into a desired environment. At a later time you will need to stop the Telemetry server process (Kafka and Zookeeper services) on each environment hosting your intended Intelligence server nodes (machines 1,2, and 3), while stopping the Intelligence server process on the intended host for the Telemetry server (machine 4).

Install Components

Start by installing components on the corresponding environments.

  1. Choose the following components for machine 4 in the Installation wizard:

    • Platform Analytics

    • MicroStrategy Repository

    • MicroStrategy Intelligence

    • MicroStrategy Telemetry Server

  2. After installation, turn off MicroStrategy Intelligence server.

  3. Choose the following components in the Installation wizard for machines 1, 2, and 3:

    • MicroStrategy Intelligence

    • MicroStrategy Telemetry Server

  4. After installation, turn off MicroStrategy Telemetry server (Kafka & Zookeeper services).

Configure Telemetry Logging

After you have installed all the components in the previous section, follow the steps below to configure telemetry logging and the Platform Analytics project.

  1. Grant Access to the Platform Analytics Repository for Single Node Telemetry

  2. Enable Telemetry Logging for Intelligence Servers When Using Single Node Telemetry

  3. Create and Configure the Platform Analytics Project for Single Node Telemetry

  4. Trigger the Initial Load of Object Telemetry

  5. Client Telemetry Configuration
