About Managing Project Access Using Security Roles

A security role is a set of privileges that can be assigned as a set to users and can be reused from project to project. Security roles enable you to assign a unique set of privileges to users on a per project basis. They are created and maintained at the project source level and assigned to users at the project level.

Security roles can include a "guest" or anonymous login with an appropriately limited set of privileges. When using anonymous authentication, users log in as "Guest" and do not need to provide a password.

Before you work with security roles, you should:

  • Have system administration privileges

  • Understand the security requirements of your system

  • Know which privileges provide access to which application functionality

For a list of privileges assigned to security roles, default privileges assigned to each group, and a definition of all privileges in MicroStrategy, see the System Administration Help.
