Specifying rectangle properties

Rectangle properties define the rectangle. Examples of these properties are name, position, and size. You can use this procedure to specify the properties for either a rectangle (with square corners) or a rounded rectangle (with rounded corners).

For information on rectangle formatting (such as background), see Formatting rectangles using the Format Objects dialog box and Formatting rounded rectangles using the Format Objects dialog box.

To set rectangle properties

  1. Open the document to be formatted in the Document Editor. (How?)

  2. Select the rectangle to be formatted.

  3. From the Format menu, select Properties. The Properties dialog box opens.

  4. You can change the following properties using the General tab:

    • Name, which is used to identify the rectangle.

    • Visible, which determines whether the rectangle is displayed when a user views the document. The control always remains visible in Design View, regardless of this setting. For more information, see Hiding controls.

  5. You can change the position and size of the rectangle using the Layout tab. The properties include the following:

    • Left: the distance between the left edge of the rectangle and the left border of the section.

    • Top: the distance between the top edge of the rectangle and the top of the section.

    • Height: the height of the rectangle.

    • Width: the width of the rectangle.

    • Height mode: determines if the height is dynamic or static. It is used only in Express Mode. The options are:

    • Fixed: the height does not change from the size set in the Height property.

    • 100%: the rectangle's height is set to the height of the section.

    • Width mode, which determines if the width is dynamic or static. It is used only in Express Mode. The options are similar to the Height modes described above.

  6. Click OK when you have completed formatting the rectangle. You are returned to the Document Editor.
