Formatting rounded rectangles using the Format Objects dialog box

Use this procedure to format a rounded rectangle (with rounded corners). To format a rectangle (with square corners), see Formatting rectangles using the Format Objects dialog box. You can define the background fill, including gradient colors (a two-color combination). You can also control how the rounded corners are displayed in Flash Mode.

To format a rounded rectangle using the Format Objects dialog box

  1. Open the document to be formatted in the Document Editor. How?

  2. Select the rounded rectangle to format.

  3. From the Format menu, select Format. The Format Objects dialog box opens.

  4. Click the Background tab.

  5. To use a single color as the background:

    • Set the Background style to Solid.

    • Use the Fill color drop-down list to select the background color of the shape.

  6. To use a gradient color, which blends two colors in a gradual color change in the background:

    • Set the Background style to Gradient.

    • Use the Color 1 drop-down list to select the first color to apply to the shape.

    • Use the Color 2 drop-down list to select the second color to apply. Color 1 and Color 2 are blended together.

    • Click one of the squares to set the direction of the shading between the two colors. The colors can blend left to right, right to left, top to bottom, or bottom to top.

    • As you make changes, the Sample area changes to show a preview of your selections.

  7. To format the border, which displays only in Flash Mode in MicroStrategy Web, click the Line tab. For complete directions, see Format the border.

  8. To apply a 3D effect, which makes the rectangle appear three-dimensional, like a button, in Flash Mode in MicroStrategy Web only, follow the directions in Applying 3D effects to controls.

  9. To apply a drop shadow, which causes the rectangle to appear to float above the background, follow the directions in Applying drop shadows to controls.

  10. To control the display of the rounded corners:

    • On the Effects tab, set the Rounded corner radius, which defines how round the corners are.

    • To round the top corners only, set Top corners only to True. By default, all four corners are rounded.

  11. Click OK to accept the changes and return to the Document Editor.
