Derived Elements Editor

With the Derived Elements Editor you can create derived elements with groups, filters, and calculations. The Derived Elements Editor provides the full set of derived elements functionality when creating derived elements. Derived elements are provided as part of the OLAP Services product.

You need the Define Derived Elements (MicroStrategy Developer) and/or the Web Define Derived Elements (MicroStrategy Web) privileges to access the Derived Elements Editor. These privileges are part of OLAP Services.

Derived Elements Editor contents

The Derived Elements Editor interface is composed of the tabs and toolbar options listed below:

  • Definition tab: From the Definition tab of the Derived elements Editor you can create, rename, delete, modify, and format derived elements.

  • Property tab: From the Property tab of the Derived elements Editor you can define how to display derived elements, apply derived elements to subtotals, and apply a derived element's attribute elements to the All Other group.

  • Toolbar options: The Derived Elements Editor provides a set of toolbar options to help define and modify derived elements.

Accessing the Derived Elements Editor

You can access the Derived Elements Editor to create derived elements:

To access the Derived Elements Editor from reports connected to an Intelligent Cube

  1. In MicroStrategy Developer, log in to a project that contains reports connected to active Intelligent Cubes.

  2. Open the report in Grid View, Design View, or Grid and Graph view.

  3. In the grid display of the report, right-click the attribute for which you want to create or modify derived elements, and click Derived Elements. The Derived Elements Editor opens.

To access the Derived Elements Editor in Grid/Graphs

  1. In MicroStrategy Developer, log in to a project that contains Grid/Graphs in Report Services documents.

  2. Open the document in Design Mode.

  3. Expand the document section that contains the Grid/Graph.

  4. Right-click the Grid/Graph and select Edit Grid.

  5. Right-click the attribute to create or modify derived elements for, and click Derived Elements. The Derived Elements Editor opens.

To access the Derived Elements Editor to create a stand-alone derived element

  1. In MicroStrategy Developer, log in to a project.

  2. Select File, point to New, and then Derived Element. The Select Attribute window opens.

  3. Select an attribute from which you want to create the derived element, and click Open. The Derived Elements Editor opens.
