Adding the current date and time to documents

To timestamp a document with the current date and time, use an auto text code. Auto text codes are a type of dynamic text that is populated by the document but consists of the document's properties rather than data from the data warehouse or cache.

To add the current date and time

  1. Open a document in the Document Editor. How?

  2. Expand the section where you want to add the date and time by clicking the plus sign next to the section name.

  3. On the Insert menu, point to Auto Text, and then select Date and Time. The text field is added at the top left corner of the selected section, but you can move it.

  4. You can change the formatting of the Date and Time field using the Property List. This includes properties such as font size, color, and alignment, but also the format of the date. For example, you can display the date without the time, the name of the month rather than the number, and so on. (How?)
