Import Data from a BI Source

After you have made the report or query available as a web service and obtained the URL of the query, you can import the data into MicroStrategy Workstation.
- Create a web service to connect to the report or query in SAP BO, Oracle, or IBM Cognos. You must have the URL of the report or query.
- A SAP BO query cannot include prompts.
- If an IBM Cognos report contains multiple tables, only the first table is extracted.
To import data from a BI source
- Open a new or existing dashboard.

To import data into a new dataset, click Add Data > New Data.

To add data to a dataset, click the drop-down arrow next to the dataset name in the Datasets panel and choose Edit Dataset. The Preview Dialog opens. Click Add a New Table.
The Data Sources dialog opens.
- Click BI Tools. The BI Sources dialog opens.
- Click Add . The Data Source Dialog opens.
- Select a data source of SAP BO, OBIEE, or Cognos from the BI Sources drop-down.
- Select Show connection string to view the string for connecting to the data source.
- Select the Edit connection string checkbox to edit the connection string in the text box.
- Enter the user name and password to access the data source in User and Password.
- Enter a new name for the data source in Data Source Name.
- Click OK.
- You can import multiple reports and queries at the same time. Each report or query create an individual table in a cube. Enter the URL for the report or query in SAP BO, Oracle, or IBM Cognos that has been made available as a web service in the Enter URL field. Then, click Add to add the URL to the list of queries.
- If you want to preview and modify your data before importing, click Prepare Data.
- Click Finish. The data is imported into a new dataset or updated in an existing dataset.
