Specifying image properties

Image properties define the image. Examples of these properties are name, position, size, and image source. For information on image formatting (borders, including 3D effects and drop shadow), see Formatting images using the Format Objects dialog box.

To set image properties

  1. Open the document to be formatted in the Document Editor. (How?)

  2. Select the image to be formatted.

  3. From the Format menu, select Properties. The Properties dialog box opens.

  4. You can change the following properties on the General tab:

    • Name, which is used to identify the image.

    • Visible, which determines whether the image is displayed when a user views the document. The image always remains visible in Design View, regardless of this setting. For more information, see Hiding controls.

    • Tooltip contains text that is displayed when a user positions the cursor over the image in MicroStrategy Web. Tooltips are not displayed in PDF view, in either MicroStrategy Developer or MicroStrategy Web. You can use tooltips to provide extra information. See Creating pop-up tooltips for more details.

    • Is hyperlink specifies whether the image is a hyperlink to the location specified in the Hyperlink property. For more information, see Creating hyperlinks in documents.

    • Hyperlink is the destination of the hyperlink. It is used only when the Is hyperlink check box is selected.

    • Open in new window determines whether the hyperlink destination opens in the same window as the current document or in a new window. It is available only when the Is hyperlink check box is selected.

  5. You can change the position and size of the image on the Layout tab. The properties include the following:

    • Left: the distance between the left edge of the image and the left border of the section.

    • Top: the distance between the top edge of the image and the top of the section.

    • Height: the height of the image.

    • Width: the width of the image.

    • Lock aspect ratio: determines whether the image retains its original width-to-height ratio.

  6. You can change the Source (the file location of the image) on the Image tab. To ensure access to the image, follow the rules in Adding images to documents.

  7. Click OK when you have completed formatting the image. You are returned to the Document Editor.
