MicroStrategy ONE

Defining metric subtotal functions

This procedure sets:

  • The function that calculates the metric's grand totals (the Total subtotal function)

  • Which functions are available for subtotal calculations for the metric (the Available subtotals)

For more information on subtotals for metrics, see About metric subtotals.

To define metric subtotal functions

  1. Open the metric in the Metric Editor. How?

  2. Click the Subtotals/Aggregation tab.

  3. From the drop-down list in Total subtotal function, select the default function to use when the metric is totaled on a report.

If you select None, you cannot use F11 to apply default grand totals in the report. Instead, you must apply a subtotal using one of the available subtotal functions, which are set in the next step.

  4. Select the functions to be available for subtotal calculations by completing the following steps:

    • Select the function or functions in the Available project subtotals list.

    • Click the > button to move the selections to the Available subtotals for metrics list.

    • You can move all the project functions to the metric functions list by clicking >>.

    • If the Available subtotals for metrics list is blank, only the Total subtotal function is available for subtotal calculation.

    • To view a function's definition and syntax, select it in either list.

  5. To completely disable all totals, complete the following steps:

    • Set Total subtotal function to None.

    • Clear the Available subtotals for metric list by clicking <<.

If you set Total subtotal function to None but do not clear the available subtotals, grand totals are unavailable in reports except by applying subtotals. If you clear the Available subtotals for metrics list and set a Total subtotal function, only that function is available for subtotal calculation.

  6. Click Save and Close to save the metric and close the Metric Editor.
