Group Containers in Free-Form Layout

  1. Open a dashboard in free-form layout.
  2. To group multiple containers, multi-select them, right-click, and choose Group. Once you form a group, it stays grouped together with the same relative positioning in a responsive view.

You can multi-select containers by clicking on them and holding the CTRL key or dragging a lasso completely around them.

  3. Reposition a group by dragging and dropping the group on the Layout area.
    • To reposition one container in the group, right-click the container and select Format. In the Format panel, click Title and Container . Enter the new position in the X and Y boxes using percentage values from 0 to 100. Using percentages provides flexible scaling so that elements remain in their relative positions when resizing the dashboard.

  4. Beginning in Strategy One (August 2025), you can resize the group. In the Layout area, hover your cursor over the group and drag its borders to the new size.

    • To resize one container in the group, right-click the container and select Format. In the Format panel, click Title and Container . Enter the new size in the Width and Height boxes using percentage values from 0 to 100. Using percentages provides flexible scaling so that elements remain in their relative positions when resizing the dashboard.

  5. You can arrange overlapping layers to create a specific design. Select the group, click More and choose Bring to Front, Bring Forward, Send to Back, or Send Backward.
  6. The Layers panel is helpful when using free-form layout, since it allows you to access overlapping objects that are difficult to select.

    • If the Layers panel is not displayed, from the View menu, select Layers Panel.

    • To rename the group, double-click the group name and type the new name.

    • To rearrange layers, right-click the group and choose Bring to Front, Bring Forward, Send to Back, or Send Backward. You can also drag and drop a group within the Layers panel to move it to a different layer.

    • You can rearrange containers within the group in the same way.

    • You can hide groups in responsive view to provide a more responsive experience on smaller devices. For more information, see Curate the Responsive and Default Views by Hiding Specific Containers in Free-Form Layout.
