Titles

The Titles category of the Graph Preferences dialog box can be used to add, change, or delete various types of titles in a graph. These types include title, subtitle, footnote, Category title, X-Axis title, Value title (Y1 and Y2), and Series Axis title. You can type static text into a title or, for specific types of titles, use variables, such as report name, report description, and axis information.

Depending on the selected graph style, the Titles category displays the following title options:

  • Title is the main title for the graph. The graph title is placed by default at the top center of the graph. This applies to all graph styles.

  • Subtitle provides additional information about your graph. By default, it is placed at the top center of the graph, directly below the graph title. This applies to all graph styles.

  • Footnote is explanatory text related to the data displayed by the graph. By default, the graph footnote is placed at the bottom right corner of the graph. This applies to all graph styles.

  • Category Title defines a title for your graph's group/category axis. By default, it is placed below the Category Axis labels. This is not available for 3D Scatter, Bubble, Histogram, Pie, and Scatter graphs.

  • Series Axis Title further describes the information that is being charted on the series axis. The series labels that are normally displayed in the legend area are plotted along a secondary group axis. In the default configuration, these series labels are drawn on the lower left side of the three-dimensional cube. This applies to Surface and 3D graphs, such as 3D Risers, 3D Floating, 3D Connect Group, and so on.

  • Value Title (Y1) creates a title for the primary numeric (Y1) axis. It applies to all graph styles, except Pie charts.

  • Value Title (Y2) creates a title to explain what is being plotted on the secondary numeric (Y2) axis. It applies to Dual-Y and Bi-Polar graphs only.

  • X-Axis creates a title for the X-axis. It applies to Histogram, Bubble, and Scatter graphs only.

  • X-Axis Title creates a title for the X-axis. It applies to 3D Scatter graphs only.

  • Y-Axis Title creates a title for the Y-axis. It applies to 3D Scatter graphs only.

  • Z-Axis Title creates a title for the Z-axis. It applies to 3D Scatter graphs only.

You can apply formatting to the different types of titles. If you use the Titles: All category to format titles, the formatting is applied to all titles. You can also use the individual title categories to format each title individually. You have the following formatting options:

The formatting options contain different options based on the graph object (text, area, line, and so on) that is selected. These formatting options can enhance the readability and style of your graph report.
